Should I upgrade to Windows 11 if I game?
I primarily game and watch media on my rig, I don't use it as a work station. Should I upgrade now or wait a bit longer?

eh just wait until windows 10 goes EOL imo there is no reason to move yet. Just my 2 cents
Like any migration there is no point moving until you have to or at least should do windows 10 to 11 should be pretty seamless already but things take time to implement and there is always going to be the few oddballs that take a while to catch up. Games is one those areas. IMO just wait until it becomes more seasoned and there is what? still like 4 years or so of support for win 10.
There is nothing in windows 11 really that warrants the need to move anyway unless you think you want all that security junk that is at the premise of windows 11.
Like we have heard many times in the past since like XP they keep saying that X OS was supposed to be the last one its no different with win 10 they said that too and then later retracted that statement by acting like they never said it at this point they should stop making new OS and just keep the same one they already have.
Hello @gettheclicker,
I personally would wait. There isNO
immediate rush as Win 10 is supported until Oct-2025.
You could of course setup aDual Boot
with Win 10 & Win 11 if that better suits your needs.
I hope this helps.
TBH i am sore about win 11 because it is Gate keeping with entry requirements being Generation 8 and up and as a PC parts enthusiast/collector this pisses me off big time almost enough to boycott windows entirely.
I understand why this is the way it is but regardless this requirement alone is automatically by default voiding many competent platforms that are still in production today i mean 7th gen and i think even in some cases 6th gen are still being produced from manufacture and both these platforms are still plenty powerful. Especially for mom pop down the road that just use their computer to check emails and their online banking.
What about the plethora of 5th gen and 4th gen computers that are still very powerful and can game?
What about Nehalem, Sandy and Ivy? sure showing their age the mighty trinity have fallen and are legacy now and on paper they get blown out the water but regardless these platform are still the little engines that can and can do very well if used in the right situations and in the right hands.
What about Haswell/E and refresh? i mean come on plenty of gamers still have these boards because they are competent and play all games.
Sorry just a rant but i dislike Win 11 for this reason as its only contributing to the massive Ewaste problem that the IT industries never really cares about fixing. While at the same time culling 100s of 1000s of PC that are still plenty viable for various people and various situations.
Consumerism at is finest. MICROSCONGOMLERATEBETHESDA 3000 extravaganza wants to pay money forward to the conglomerate industry that we call computers just to use its system and Microsoft is at the top of that umbrella. They are trying to secure Activision Blizzard atm which is a billion dollar deal.
Yeah Microsoft thanks for supporting your customers by axing literally half of the computer landscape. Which in 2022 and the world we live in countless pcs will go to landfill now because we have become a throw away society.

For contrast i will say this here as i recall saying this in another thread but it has taken us literally 20 years to go from 4gz to 5ghz. When these industry hype train advisors/influences are crunching their little benchmarks and showing their audiences all these little hype train features they are literally squeezing bees dicks all this stuff is is measured in the milliseconds and smaller.
Many people don't realize how slow computers are actually progressing since the turn of this era which btw way for ease of sake we will just say this generation hierarchy we are in now only started in 2009 so only like 12 years ago. All these influencers online are just paid promoters that are used to cause hype train where many people feel stuck if they get left behind.
Computers are not getting any cheaper and general inflation is only going up we don't need Microconglomerate going and axing half of the tree because at the end of the day its money generation for a conglomerate that they are at the very top of.

As someone who has upgraded her primary machine (gaming and workstation) I have found no difference in gaming performance between 10 and 11. My benchmark scores did improve a little, but big deal.
If you are happy with Win 10 and it works for you, then I would suggest riding it out until it goes EOL in 2025, then upgrade.
I would say wait.
There are still a lot of bugs with Windows 11, and one of my old colleagues uses it for gaming. From what I've been told of their experience with it, they experience bugs on a daily basis. Their most common freezing the game for about a minute before being able to play again, or just crashing the game outright.
