some games are crashing when i close them

i am noticing that some games that i am playing are doing a silent crash when i exit the game and the game is crashing instead of closing normally. the exception code is 0xc0000005 when the silent crash happens. https://i.imgur.com/laiON3Y.jpg is an example of the crash in one game

0xc0000005 means access violation so that means that the game is doing something illegal when i close it and that's why the game is crashing. in the beginning i thought that a security setting like data execution prevention was causing the crashing. i did a test and i added a game that crashes when i close it to the program settings under exploit settings in app & browser control in windows security and i switched off all the security settings. the game still crashed when i closed it. i don't know. if a security setting was causing the crashing then i think that game should crash with 0xc0000005 when i run the game and not when i close it

both of my laptops have windows 10 build 21h2 and if a game does a silent crash when i close it then it happens on both of my laptops. also i know other people who also had the same silent crash like me in the same games. why is this happening?

It would help if we knew what games were crashing. Perhaps there is some commonality that we currently cannot see...

it happened for me in games that use the unreal engine like for example in scarlet nexus. i made a post about it and the link is the game is crashing when i close it :: SCARLET NEXUS General Discussions. someone said that the same issue is happening also. also here is another post Scarlet Nexus error on event viewer when exiting game :: SCARLET NEXUS General Discussions complaining about the same issue

i think that the game is doing something illegal when you close it and the crash happens to stop that

Has there been a resolution for this in the meantime? I can't find anything specific online, perhaps the issue was patched?

I'm thinking about getting this game for Black Friday since a local game store always gives discounts around that time via a QRCG and Scarlet Nexus scored well enough and somewhat reminds me of DMC in its core gameplay. But, I'd rather avoid it if it's doing something "sketchy" in the background, as you suggested...

(I also got my eyes on Disco Elysium and Hitman 3, since three games is that sweet spot where I'll have enough to keep me going till January and be able to fully utilize the discount )

I found this with a Google...

About 20 years ago, we used to get this problem (0xc0000005), quite a bit on Diablo II.
90% of the time it had to do with the graphics card or driver.

I would try the things in the Microsoft link above. As for the graphics driver...

    DDU Instructions - Nvidia
    1. Get this program, here: Display Driver Uninstaller (DDU) | Wagnardsoft ...get the latest version, and save it to your desktop.
    2. Get the DCH/Game Ready vid card driver here, use the Manual Search: Advanced Driver Search | NVIDIA ...save this to your desktop.
    Unhook the internet completely.
    3. Reboot into Safe Mode and run DDU (Display Driver Uninstaller) choose the "Highly Recommend Option", and just do what it tells you.
    4. After it's done, reboot to normal mode, then just double click the Nvidia driver to install.
[See pics below]. If it want's to reboot, let it.
    Rehook the internet.

For the Visual C++ Runtimes, this is probably the easiest way...
Visual C++ Redistributable Runtimes All-in-One (Nov 2022) Download | TechPowerUp

I notice your CPU also has a graphics part. But I'm not really familiar with Intel graphics parts.
Maybe look to see if it's being used or not, when you play that game?

it depends on the computer. some computers ignore the access violation and nothing happens. others catch it and the game crashes

anyway if you want to close the game then open the task manager and do end task for the process of the game. the game wont do an access violation if you do that
