Does anyone use any wireless controllers on PC?

If so, which controller and how do you get it working?

You need to be more specific. Do mean like an Xbox wireless controller?

I originally bought two Microsoft Xbox One Wireless Controllers. They come with two AA batteries. I decided not to use these batteries and replace them with rechargeable battery packs.

You can connect these controllers to a Windows 10 PC using Bluetooth. That works fine for me. Optionally, you can buy a Microsoft Xbox Wireless Adapter and connect to it. The advantage of using it is that you need it if you want to connect a headset to the controller.

To pair the Xbox One controller to the PC using Bluetooth

With the controller:

1. Turn on the controller

2. Hold down the pairing button until the light starts flashing rapidly


On the PC:

1. Go to Settings > Devices

2. Select Add Bluetooth or other device



3. Select Bluetooth



4. Select Xbox Wireless Controller



5. When the Xbox Wireless Controller is ready select Next

You are right. However, there are four variations of the wireless Xbox controller now. The 3rd and 4th variations have Bluetooth. Model 1708 is the 3rd variation. It is true that the 4th variation came out with the new Xbox Series X and Xbox Series S but this variation is backwards compatible with the Xbox One controllers.

Controller variations

The original two controller models (Models 1537 and 1697) have a different plastic trim around the Xbox logo and do not support Bluetooth. Model 1697 controllers added a 3.5mm audio jack, while Model 1537 controllers lack it.

The Xbox Elite Wireless Controller and Xbox Elite Wireless Controller 2 includes more features compared to regular controller, including replaceable sticks and d-pad, four paddle buttons to back and fully rebindable button layouts.

The third standard model (Model 1708) was released along with the Xbox One S and have Bluetooth connectivity and textured grips. The Xbox logo is now surrounded by the main plastic on the front of the body.

The fourth standard model (Model 1914) was released along with the Xbox Series X and Xbox Series S and has a slightly smaller body, a USB-C port instead of a Micro-B USB one, a Share button, and similar to the Elite Controller, it has a flat concave D-pad, textured grip and shoulder buttons. It's currently available in five different colors.

Not to start a console war here or anything like that, but I should point out that a PS3 controller is surprisingly easy to get working on a PC as well
