XBox One Controller double tapping on D-Pad Right press

I'm using an XBox One controller (its a Phantom White version if that tells you anything) on Windows 10 (most current version). I notice it double taps all of a sudden when I press Right on the D-Pad. It's not just a double tap, but it doesn't do the pause when you hold it down, it just starts scrolling indiscriminately.

I am assuming this is a mechanical issue as it does it in every software I use. And it doesn't make sense to me how some system wide Bluetooth or driver issue would cause just a Right tap to cause a problem. I have another controller (DS4 run through DS4Windows; so emulating an XBox controller) that doesn't do this.

Any ideas how to fix this? Is it just a connector on the D-Pad that may be worn? The controller is not that old and doesn't get a lot of use.

    Hello, @SSShadii.

    I found this reddit post.

The fix that seemed to help the OP was as follows:
Have you made sure your controllers have the latest software update? Plug them in via usb and go through settings accessories and check the update status.

Have you tried a different controller?

Try using the Xbox app? Does it do the same with that?

This did not correct the issue. Still a double tap on the right d-pad. I'm fairly certain this is a mechanical issue with the controller. I'm just trying to confirm it at this point before I take it apart. It makes a good "click", it just gives you an extra right command fairly often (not every time). I've seen videos where they clean the contact with isopropyl. Heading in that direction.

It's probably the controller ,I use Xbox Afterglow and they go out if you're gaming on them a lot especially the L&R controls
loosing the rubber or just plain not working or being recognized.
Just recently i had to map out my control on steam for it to work correctly with Guardians of the Galaxy if i didn't i would of never gotten through it.
Try a custom xbox Profile on steam or wherever you play the game on

Try soaking a little bit of isopropyl alcohol inside the D-Pad and rinse it with a earbud. Of-course you need to do this when the controller is unplugged.

Then wait for a few minutes to dry and reconnect and see if that solves the issue. Also try re-calibrating your controller from the Control Panel Device properties. An uncalibrated controller can also cause issues.

Your issue might be similar to that of the drifting issue with analog sticks where pushing one direction causes it to continue moving in that direction. This double tap could be something related. Sometimes there's dust that gets clogged up and that can cause issues.

You could also try blowing air in with an air blower and see if that fixes it.

If the controller isn't that old and is still under warranty you can go and get it replaced, especially if it is from a store. I always like to buy gamepad controllers from stores that way if there are problems I can easily return them for an exchange or refund more easily without delay.
