    Problem with older games

    Hi

Ive got two problems with some older games
First problem are frame rate lag, OK games works very well and smooth, but sometimes for one second freeze up
Its hard to notice that but just look many times on that gif ive made from recorded video from Nascar Racing 2003 season game.

Imgur: The magic of the Internet
It much worse on Titan Quest titan quest anniversary edition game where that frame rate drop are much longer than second.

Second problem are black frames around window. i know many old games not support 1920 x 1080 resolution
But when changed to 1024 x 768 i still got those empty black spaces on window

I never had this problem before, but year ago i was forced use system recovery maybe that recovery reset my graffic settings.
    My specs

    Windows 10 Home 64bit
    procesor Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-7700HQ CPU @ 2.80GHz 2.80 GHz
    Geforce GTX 1050
my windows version number 20H2 19042.1348

    1. If all else fails I suggest checking out VMware or VMbox the OS and then running the game on that OS. It is basically the same with DOSbox emulation for DOS games.

    2. You could checkout this thing called "OpenALwEAX.exe" it allows various settings of cards from the early 2000's and before to function and give up to date support and fixes ( like true wide screen support ) along with enhanced graphics.

    3. Program Compatibility is terrible. The best you could hope for is finding somebody to make a fix for the game "If they care" Games with dedicated fan bases like

Tron 2.0 user Error ( you literally checkout the page listed with all the fixes and contact )
Sonic R ( Yes their is a PC game of the Saturn game )
Sonic CD ( yes their is a fix for that PC game as well )
Phantasy Star Online BB and Universe have a small community.

    ...........

So far I have problems loading Prince of Persia 2000 games on my computer. AKA from the PS2/GCN age. Maybe I should try one of the fixes I advise you to checkout????

Your problem is likely CPU, as old games are usually single core. Try to overclock it at least to 4.6ghz! Also you didn't mention ram frequency. Check also you have disabled turn off disk after x min (set it to 0 to disable) in control panel. Check your disk % usage. Also I recommend you to change power setting, or it is under name power plan (ctrl+f it) in my TweakGuide: share gaming tweaks and chec my comprehensive list will blow your mind

For fullscreen just change in Nvidia control panel/adjust size and position to fullscreen and check override settings by program...

Also check my tweakguide for best NVCP (nvidia control panel) setting.

Some games allow to go to full HD by adding in config -height 1080 -width 1920, or some have patches for full HD - look on net...

He can't overclock a Laptop he would for sure ruin it!
The Cpu is non overclockable at best i would clean install windows again or see if upgrading the drivers will fix it.
Also ,It could be your thermals are too out of control to function sounds like you would be better off having it opened and repaste the CPU and GPU that would be the most proper solution at this point if you can't afford a new one, as i said could be the GPU dying from heat.

Having opened a number of Notebooks over the years I've noted heating issues can be caused by household pets and fine hairs plugging up the fins on the cooling mechanism. Mechanically the fan is not on the CPU but there is a copper cooling device used to transfer the heat with the fan being away from the CPU and the heatsink-type fins near the edge of the motherboard/case, next to openings in the case, all that needs cleaning, sometimes just using canned air works.
The copper part here is similar in most Notebooks/Laptops:

Try to use one of hardware monitors like CPUID HW Monitor or similar to check CPU utilization and thermals when these hiccups occur.
