Can't Update MS Flight Simulator 2020

I haven't used MS Flight Simulator 2020 for a few weeks. I tried to start it today and I get the message - "A mandatory update is available. Please update Microsoft flight simulator in the Microsoft store before launching". There is no update in the Store when I run Get Updates and repairing the app did nothing.

I currently have v 1.18.15.0. Has anyone got a fix for this apparent bug?

Well, I went through this myself yesterday. It was a strange one for sure.

What ended up working for me, was going to the Store, Hitting update in the upper right corner and letting it update what it could. Note, this did not include flight simulator. Then I rebooted my computer.

Then, launched the Xbox app that I have (this is typically how I install the GamePass apps so I can control where they install to). From that app, I launched Microsoft flight simulator, which took me to the same error about needing a mandatory update.

But NOW, when I go back to Store, and click on the Updates in the upper right corner, low and behold it scans, and flight simulator comes up and gets a 600MB patch.

From here, was then able to launch flight simulator and it checked for downloads in the app, found another large patch and it patched itself.

    Hope that helps you out.

You are a genius! On launching the game from the XBox app, it loaded then crashed when I pressed a button to start as requested. At this point MS Store found the 509MB update to v1.19.8. I then ran the game again but was presented with an Xbox nag screen which kept appearing despite selecting 'Let's Go'. I then logged out of XBox and logged in again with same MS account. Now the game loaded and is doing the 43GB update. So far so good but this is one bug ridden update.

I just got lucky more than anything. You would think this would have been a very straight forward thing that should have immediately popped up in the store.....but i guess it was a chicken and egg race condition sort of thing.

Anytime I run into issues, I usually jot down notes on what steps I did and in which order. Sometimes it comes in handy. Most times it just gives me something to do while I'm waiting on the process to finish.

What version Windows you running (full build info). It also might help to reboot Windows.

I use 21H1 19043.1165. I did of course reboot Windows. The issue was a bug solved as discussed above by starting the game from the XBox app. Now updated, MSFS works normally.
