is what is happening to me normal

my laptop is an alienware 17 r5. it has an nvidia gtx 1080 graphics card and an intel graphics card. it has 32gb ram. i am using windows 10 build 2004. in the end of may my ram chips spoilt and new ram chips were placed for me

after that i played a bunch of modern games and there were no problems and then i started to play some ancient games

the first one was released in 2001 and it is for windows xp+. i ran the game by using my nvidia card and there were no problems. i finished that game around 2 months ago

next i played a game on pcsx2 which is a ps2 emulator. while i was playing the game it froze for a few seconds, the whole screen was black for a bit and then the game resumed. that happened once in a few weeks and then i finished the game

next i played the second ancient game which was released in 2008 and it is for windows 7+. also i was playing this game it froze for a few seconds, the whole screen went black and then the game resumed. the issue happened around 15 times in the few weeks that i played the game. i tried a couple of things like closing steam so it didn't run in the background while i played the game, i lowered the graphics settings, i played the game in windowed mode, i wiped the nvidia driver by using ddu and i reinstalled the driver but i wasn't able to stop the issue from happening. i played the game by using my nvidia card

now i am playing the third ancient game which was released in 2015 and it is for vista+. the issue is still happening. i tried to play the game by using the intel card, i enabled compatibility mode for windows 7, i disabled fullscreen optimization and lowered color settings in the compatibility settings but the issue is still happening

why is the issue happening for me aggressively in the ancient games? i don't think that it's a problem with my graphics driver because it's happening on both of my graphics card. i am not doing windows updates so a bad update cant cause the issue. i checked the event viewer and i couldn't find anything. my cpu temps are normal when the issue happened

is what is happening to me normal due to compatibility problems from running ancient games on windows 10?

can you still play games shown as compatible with 10 - without problems

what is the game and what does the site for it report if anything regarding its compatibility mode with 10.

That and the method you used to stop them could indeed be the cause of some of your problems

Please do not reply to point 3 as you have done when someone else asked why you were running 2004
i like 2004. windows updates is not the problem
as quite apart from the game issue, even if the update matter is not related running 2004 with updates stopped will most definitely produce problems - presuming you mean ALL UPDATES rather then merely version updates eg from 2004 to 20H2

    4. Have you tried playing these old games with Bit Defender configured

    I installed Bitdefender internet security

Programs and games that ran on WinXP can be problematic on Win10, especially because of differences between 32-bit and 64-bit programming. Only WinXP Pro was available to consumers as either 32-bit or 64-bit, all versions later could be either. The only issue with WinXP Pro x64 was it was new and not many programs available yet for 64-bit, I still have the disk for it. The even-older 16-bit programs really aren't favored by 64-bit Win10, usually get a message they can't be run when trying to install. From the reading I've done the new Win11 won't even offer 32-bit/x86, haven't seen a 32-bit CPU in awhile.

no. i just tested a modern game and the issue is still there

i don't think that it's the fault of the game

the method that i used to stop windows updates is not the cause of the problem because i have played a lot of games before the problem started and there were no issues

    no

when a game freezes for a few seconds and the screen turns black then the most obvious thing is that the display driver stopped working and it restarted. around 1.5 months ago i updated to nvidia driver 471.11 and i also updated the intel card driver. i played the first old game on nvidia driver 471.11 and that's when the issue started. i did ddu and i wiped the nvidia driver and i put nvidia driver 471.48. the issue is still there

after that i played the second old game on the intel card by forcing the game to use the intel card. the problem is still there

today i played a modern game on nvidia driver 471.68 and the problem is still there

those things could mean that the new graphics drivers are causing me problems. i put back the old graphics drivers. i will see what happens next

You do not appear to think that any of my suggestions are relevant, so I will leave the matter with you.

On a previous topic another person helping you said
Is there a reason why you haven’t updated Windows. The latest Windows version is 21H1.
    Missing updates can cause problems.
    and you replied
i like 2004. windows updates is not the problem
For your information it is widely acknowledged that some antivirus apps can cause problems trying to use compatibility mode.
I suggested you try BitDefender game mode and provided the link explaining how to configure it - but you simply reply
    NO .

I know you do not believe me but I can assure you that Windows updates may well solve the problem, you perhaps do not realise how wide ranging these updates are -

    Good luck with it.
