Flight Simulator - Birthday gift from family

I have seen a lot of hype about Flight Simulator 2020, including glowing reports and horror stories. Most seem to date from early release days so maybe OK now. Also I suspect a lot of horror stories stem from people with low spec PCs and/or low PC experience. My Computer spec below. Running Windows 10.

Any recent views you'd care to share? My birthday is in a week or so (82 so no spring chicken but ex-real pilot experienced).

    Intel Core i7 @ 3.20GHz 30 °C Coffee Lake 14nm Technology
    RAM 16.0GB Dual-Channel Unknown @ 1332MHz (19-19-19-43)
    Motherboard Gigabyte Technology Co. Ltd. Z370N WIFI-CF (U3E1) 37 °C

Flight simulator 2020 is a very demanding title. It's more heavily reliant on the CPU (single threaded performance) in addition to the GPU for the FPS.

Since you are running 2x monitors (1440p), I think you will find your GPU is going to struggle to hit 30fps. It will probably be playable, but you will have to turn down a number of settings.

I attempted to play on a Core i5-6500 (Skylake @ 3.2Hgz) with a 6GB 1060 on a 2k display with 32GB of RAM and found it unplayable. I've since upgraded to a much stronger rig, but haven't tried FS again on it.

MS FS2020 certainly stresses your hardware. I was getting random crashes after installing it on my PC having 16GB RAM. I discovered this was because the default paging size was too small. MSFS was fine after I manually increased the page file to 16GB. I've since increased the RAM to 32GB and set the page file back to the default size and this works fine. The loading time is slow c. 2 minutes even using a SSD to store the program files. The loading time using a HDD must be horrendous.

Keyboard and Airbus control stick mapping

It does seem ridiculous I know, but I cannot find anywhere that tells me what keyboard key does what and as for the 6 buttons on each side of the control stick, I've figured some out through trial and error. Searching has failed to point to anything helpful.
I am using Windows 10, latest Flight Simulator. and TCS Sidestick Airbus edition.
Very irritating when I could get in a real plane Chipmunk and fly that, despite years since last flight!

I'm using Flight Simulator 2004 "A Century of Flight" and in the menu there is all kinds of documentation that explains the controls and keyboard commands.

I don't use Steam or online versions however I'm sure there is documentation available.

Go to some of the fight simulator forums and you can find all kinds of information and help.

Since the SU5 update performance was boosted quite a bit even for older 3rd generation CPUs such as mine (3770K). Currently on 'High setting' within the sim I can hold steady say over southern Ca. region 50-55fps using an LG 34in Ultra-wide monitor at 2560x1080p. See my computer for full specs.

I'm so glad I did not rush out and spend thousands on a new system. I was involved in the development as an alpha & beta prior to release.

We will end up overtime time with more performance/stability. Asobo also plans on bringing Direct X 12 api as well.

Interesting. I don't have that update yet since I've been away. See my other post about frame rate - hopefully I'll see an improvement using my i5-3570K CPU.
