All games crashing on the latest Windows 10 2004 installation.

I did a clean installation of Windows 10 2004, installed the drivers and games. I open the game, after few minutes, the game crashes to the desktop, in the event viewer I'm shown that display driver has stopped and recovered, and game has been prevented from accessing the graphics hardware. Few other permission issues precede these entries but they don't coincide with the time of the game crash.

I believe this is due to the Windows 10's abominable security settings. I'm unable to resolve this problem even disabling controlled folder access, etc.

Is there a tool to fix these issues.

The latest update after 2004, is 20H2, and fixes some video driver issues that were in 2004, I dont know if it would help, but if you can update windows to try. I only got it doing a fresh install using media creation tool.

Looks like an unstable GPU core overclock. (almost always)

If overclocking the GPU core, you probably need to back off by at least 10 Mhz or around there.

If none of the above is true, then you likely have a faulty video card.

You don't have sufficient information about your system.

That's the one I have, I forgot it's code so I thought it was 2004.

There is no overclock on GPU and the GPU is working fine in other computer. Since these entries show up in the event viewer, I'm thinking this is a software issue related to security permissions. Or could the motherboard be faulty?

Nvidia card? I've been getting browser freezes/blank screens + this error for quite a while on my GTX 1060 and now my new GTX 1660 Super:

    Event ID: 4101
System: Display driver nvlddmkm stopped responding and has successfully recovered.

Is that what you're getting? I do not O/C anything, and am getting it on both my cards. I've gotten it on 442.92, 452.06, 456.71, 456.98 and a few others I did not add to my notes. The only recent driver that seems good to me was 451.85 HotFix. Currently testing 457.09, don't know if it's better yet or not.

I have not been playing games much lately, so not sure if it would impact that, but if it sounds like you're experiencing the same as me, you might try what the Nvidia rep told me to do over on Guru3d.

451.85 HotFix if you want to try that: GeForce Hotfix Driver Version 451.85 | NVIDIA

Thanks, I'll try and see. I don't have GeForce Experience installed, how can I enable full dump files?

No, the driver you mentioned hasn't reduced the crashes. Maybe you can inform the Nvidia rep that in Rise of the Tomb Raider this crash is coinciding with peak commit charge.

In other games like Deliver Us The Moon and A Plague Tale: Innocence there is no peak in commit charge but they are randomly crashing.

I don't install GFE either, just the main driver + Physx. So far, 2 days, 457.09 has been working well for me so I have not been able to get a crashdump to send him.

Enabling dumps so they go to C:\Users\UserName\AppData\Local\CrashDumps: Capturing application crash or TDR dump files on Windows | NVIDIA
They provide reg files there to make it easy to do and find the dumps after.

Are the games installed somewhere you have "rights" to? I don't let anything install to C:\Program Files (x86) or C:\Program Files because of the goofy Windows permissions. Half the time the programs cannot write to their own config files. You can take ownership of the folders, but what a pain in the ass to do for every single program you install. I just make a folder called "Apps" inside each of the Program Files folders, take ownership (or give myself permissions) of it and install everything there. That avoids the "Run as Administrator" nonsense that seems to be everyone's solution to everything these days.

No, I never install games to C: drive, they are installed on other drives. These drives have usual permissions. I'll try changing their permissions and see.

Permissions should not be the problem then, but yeah, make sure your username is in the list of "full permission" folks to be safe.

As for other errors besides the "nvidia driver crashed and recovered" ones, it's pretty normal to see a bunch of DistributedCOM and ESENT "errors" because...Winduhs.
