    PC locks while gaming

    Hello everyone!

Some time ago I had some problems with rams( BSOD- Critical Process died, System_service_exception, Memory_managent ), but we managed to solve them and everything was good until this week. I started to have random freezes while gaming, I still can use my mouse when the game freezes until I click something or try to press CTRL+Alt+Del for example, and then the whole pc locks up.

I've took out ram sticks and left only one to test and it still freezes. I tried to check the temperatures and see if they have something to do with it and found that some temperatures never changes:

Temperatures #4 and #5 always stays the same even under high load. Is it normal? I've never noticed it. Also the GPU temperature goes up to 82C under high load. Everything else seems to be normal.

    Thank you in advance!

What do you have connected to USB besides keyboard and mouse?

I have done the Windows update two days ago and updated the gpu drivers, but I was still having freezes.
There is a webcam connected and my phone was charging at the time when I did a log.
Also I am doing a memtest now, 3 passes already done without a single error.

No BSODs recorded. This forum is for BSODs only. I'll ask an Admin to move it to General Support

Hi Tukas. You are seeing temperatures from Nuvoton, a monitoring chip installed on your computer. I suspect it's either incorrectly measuring temperatures for you on sensor #4 and #5, or those sensors are taken from a cool place in your system that doesn't get in the way of heat, but I'm not sure where though. While I don't know why your computer is freezing, I do see a few inconsistencies with your computer which may or may not be a reason:

#1 Neither your Corsair module nor your Kingston module is on Asus' QVL for your motherboard, meaning they've not been tested for stability on your specific board. While this doesn't matter in majority of cases, it can be a factor worth pointing out.

#2 You are running two memory sticks with two completely different CAS timings. If you want to run two seperate RAM sticks (which I don't recommend at all if you want complete stability - always match), the timings and voltage should to be the same. If not the BIOS will choose specifications from the lowest stick on both of them which for most can lead to a less-than-optimal performance where it matters, and to a few may lead to instability, like gaming.

#3 Your RAM is at 3000MHz which is above JEDEC. Did you overclock this manually or did you enable XMP?

    Here's a few suggestions:

    • Run MemTest86 and let it run. Longer the better.
    • Try to run with one stick installed at JEDEC (standard) frequency.
    • Update your MB BIOS
    • If possible, try renting a matching set of RAM, preferably from the QVL for testing

First and simplest thing to do is have a look at "Reliability History". Just type reliability history in the search bar and click on "View reliability history". That will show you all issues you had the day of your "lock" and possibly what the cause was.

    Let us know.

I just took a look at Reliability history and.... here it goes:

Everyday there's lots of ATKEX_cmd.exe crashes and everyday gives me the "Windows was not properly shut down" error.

Some days it seems that I get that "Hardware error".

This hardware error always gives me the same Code, Parameter 1 and 2 and Product id. Parameter 3 differs from day to day.

I tried to run MemTest86 and it went without any errors. I removed a stick and tried with only one of them which I was using for like 4 years but I got the same results. The BIOS is updated to the latest version too.

Also I have these settings in my bios, it looks like the default settings tries to OC the cpu:

Did you completely reset the BIOS? 2133MHz is JEDEC (no OC) for your system. The 6700K should be at 4000MHz stock, with a boost target at 4200MHz. I don't know why yours are at 4100MHz. Is the BCLK above 100.00 maybe? And is the cpu multiplier set properly?

ATKEX_cmd.exe leads me to Realtek audio driver: It's possible that the audio driver is causing your games to freeze? Try to uninstall/reinstall it, or update it. And liveKernelEvent 144 comes up a lot for the graphics card driver. Maybe there's a driver conflict? Try completely reinstalling that one too using DDU.

Yes. When I had problems with BSODs I removed the battery from MB, shorted the CMOS clear, reassembled everything and made sure everything was in default and updated. I left it like that until now. Should I try so change something?

Okay I will try to reinstall those drivers completely!

OK, so what's ATKEK.exe??? The only thing I found, and what Faith said it these are related to Realtek, but...

And have you looked at your hardware - motherboard, CPU, GPU, RAM, Soundcard, HD/SSD?

You have the PC we don't. Help us help you.
