    Discord issue

What would cause my laptop screen to flash a black screen? Thought it was game related but when voice chatting my screen has flashed black requiring me to open and close the lid to get my screen working again (only ever happens while voice chatting).

Do you have any incompatible software installed? In my case it was an Aeroglass modification software (from MSFN Forums).
That software isn't (yet) compatible with the latest '1909' and the new '2004' feature updates.
Uninstalled mine and the flashing stopped.

the only thing l didnt install from the HP websites drivers was my GPU drivers any updates l get l get through the HP software.

the weird thing is l originally thought this was an issue with me using discord while playing Final Fantasy XIV, however yesterday l was chatting with a friend helping him set up a server and the screen started flashing black which pretty much suggests the problem is pretty much has discord at its center, that said Bitdefender has some form of Mic protection that l havent gotten around to turning off. though given whatever the issue is, is causing (intermittent) display issues it seems like a real long shot.. though l can say is it only happens while voice chatting.

Yes, something is telling you it needs updating or replacing perhaps.

the problem is l dont know what, lve made sure to set the Nvida as my primary GPU so everything is going through it rather than the onboard so it shouldnt be a GPU elevation issue and lve gone through event logs not really found anything so lm at a loss to explain why..

especially considering the only common thread is voice chatting on discord. l have left support tickets with discord, hp and also over on the nvida forums but since the whole pandemic stuff started lve not had any replies since posting 5 weeks ago.

Yes trying to get help at the moment is difficult to say the least. It's obviously something to do with your graphics, maybe game accelerators or similar? Just a thought.. I see you are on 1909 and I suggest you stay there until MS and NVidia (& AMD) have sorted out incoimpatibilities in Feature Update "2004".

For my information could you tell me how you channel traffic in your GPU's? What do you use?
    (I'm not a gamer).

I use the nvida control panel, there's a setting in there to set the preferred gpu, normally I'd have gone the BIOS route but that doesn't appear to be an option.

Either way everything is going through the correct gpu so I'm sure i've ruled out gpu elevation, that said discord support did get back to me earlier (someone gifted me a nitro) seems support is quicker for nitro users. Their main suggestions were reinstalling and disabling hardware acceleration (I'd already disabled overlays).

Interesting, and useful for those doing grid computing. I used to but my GPU used to overheat so much I stopped,
I only have air cooling on my ancient machine.
