What is ms-gamingoverlay?

I am not a gamer. I play not much, and when I play something, it's only some simulation games (I do not like killing, not even virtual killing ). Past few years, only games I have played are Tropico 5 and 6, Sim City, Cities - Skylines, RollerCoaster Tycoon, and Cities XXL.

Whatever game I start, I will always get this:



I always just wait the game to start, at which point that prompt disappears.

My question is, what is that? Do I need it?

I suspect that it might be the XBox app in Windows, which I do not have, nor do I want it. I always customize my Windows deployment images, removing all but essential Store apps. XBox app is always one of the first I remove.

Can anyone confirm that the notification I get means I should reinstall XBox app? If so, do I gain something if I install it, or can I continue playing without it?
