Can't choose drive to download games from Xbox PC game pass

The terms of download and install are different functions. Downloading is the simple act of transferring and storing a file to the computer from another computer while installing is the more complex of making a program usable in the Operating System. A lot depends with a download of how it is being done, what program is being used. If an Internet Browser is being used it can be set to save all downloads to a folder on an internal drive then the install of the program can be done from that file.

I don't use Xbox and really no need to so can't say if it has a procedure for the download and save or if it needs to be done on a different drive or a particular partition on a drive [all drives need at least one partition so as to be formatted].

It's best not to use a removable drive to avoid not having it available for all uses. To save space the downloads can be moved to a removable drive later on.

In your image if the D: partition is the "second SSD", the yellow triangle at the right end of that line shows a problem with it.

Have you tried changing the default install path for new apps in the apps section of settings?
If that doesn't work it may be a limitation of how the MS install for games works, if so I would send feedback about the issue in the hope they will change how it works. I can't imagine you are the only person who would like to install to another drive.

Good thought, I routinely install new programs to my D: [DATA] partition on the only HDD in the computer simply because from the factory C: is only 150GB while D: is 780GB and after 4 years of use I have no inclination to change it. It's just a choice one has to make at the time of installing, Default or Custom. The same process can be applied to 2 drives.

Well I think some people end up confused about the different ways to install to drives other than C:\, most programs default to C:\ because that drive always exists, however you can change the install location by choosing a new path in the installer (majority of installers allow this), you can also tell Windows to install new apps to another location in the main settings/ apps section (applies to Store apps), you can also re locate the majority of the User folders to another drive by using the location tab or following a tutorial to re locate user folders.
Some items seem to resist or deny changing install location, such as games and films bought/ rented through the MS Store.
I know you already know this Berton, just including it for others who may happen on this thread.

You were right, corrupted file system! Thank you!

Glad you figured this out cause I was about to say I bought Outer Worlds from the game store and installed it on my G (games) drive without issue.
