Faking RAM amount to play a game

Hello!

I have a computer that has 6GB of RAM (2x2GB + 2x1GB) and no free RAM slot. I wanted to play Forza Horizon 4 that has minimum RAM requirement 8GB. Every time I load the game I get an annoying warning that I do not have the minimum system requirement for low settings and game may not run properly. I just click on ignore and continue after which the game runs OK without any issues and with very good performance. I satisfy all the other minimum requirements, except that amount or RAM. So does anyone knows if I can disable this annoying message in Forza Horizon 4? The game runs well anyway.

Alternatively, is there any way to fake the amount of RAM for example, a utility that can make RAM to appear as 8GB, even if Windows 10 report only 6GB can be used? Or a utility that can assign some GB from the hard disk or SSD as additional RAM, so the total would be raised from 6GB physical RAM to 8GB or 10GB combined RAM?

I cannot just upgrade the RAM because I would have to replace the two 1GB modules with two 2GB modules. Also my motherboard and BIOS are crap, so mixed RAM modules may no boot. In that case I would have to replace all four modules with identical 2GB modules (RAM is DDR2) and that is not cost-effective. So is there any way to fake RAM or expand RAM using the hard disk or SSD? Any help appreciated. This would help other users facing RAM limitations with many other games.

Windows has a built in safeguard for running out of RAM, the Page file which when switched on will use a reserved amount of disk space to act as temporary memory, open the settings app and search for "Page File" to check your settings and set as needed

Note

The amount of memory you allocate to Page File, will not be available to use for storage
It's usual to allocate 1,5 times the RAM installed - so 9GB would be recommended for you

All this will not work if the software is using techniques that check the amount of Actual RAM installed

I have to agree with LMiller7 - you're not going to trick Windows into thinking it has more "physical" memory than it actually does as this info is gathered from the BIOS.

Anyway, side note, that's the first game I've seen recommending a minimum of 8 gig RAM

Win10 may still allow using ReadyBoost with a larger SDHC card if the computer has such a slot. I've done a 4GB Notebook that way with an 8GB card, did improve performance.

Yeah, but that may not do jack for a game looking for 8 gig of physical RAM.

If the developer does not give an option to remove the warning in this version we have to assume that they feel that the warning is a necessary thing. It may be worthwhile checking if the developer or game distributors have their own forum which you could ask directly if there is some hidden way to remove the warning a lot of games still use basic text files for settings rather than the Windows Registry, so it's a simple thing to solve once you know what to change.

I am assuming that the warning does not prevent playing the game, this would leave you a couple of options,

Ignore the warning and enjoy the game.

Source some suitable RAM and update the system and enjoy your game.
The RAM you quote is DDR2 which is quite old, unfortunately this would make it more expensive, (old RAM becomes rarer over time and stores seem to treat it like some ancient artifact and price in accordingly ). I would take a look at getting second hand, (or these days "previously cherished" ), RAM from Ebay or other online marketplace, try Amazon and the Big Computer stores as sometimes they will sell to clear space .

The ini file was supposed to be obsolete many years ago and replaced by the central store "The Registry", so any variable could be in there or in an .ini file as games developers are often slow to change methods. If it ain't broke ...

The registry is a major part of windows and can be very intimidating, but it does have a good search so it's possible to look for entries for a specific string such as the name of the program / game You can use the default application RegEdit.Exe to search and edit the keys in the registry and importantly you have the option to backup a part, or the whole, registry, which is advisable as an incorrect change can stop programs or even windows from working.

Your best source of assistance to this issue would be ether a specific site for the game aor one of the many Games sites on the internet, can't recommend any as my games playing stops at Solitaire, Maybe one of the gamers here may offer a suggestion of where to check
