Origin client just... won't open suddenly.

Origin won't open, I'll click it, I'll get a working in the background cursor, but nothing will happen. It won't be in background processes either. Tried reinstalling it. Tried repairing the vcredists in the directory.

The only things that have changed since it working and not are: I updated my motherboard BIOS from AMD AGESA 1.0.0.3 to 1.0.0.4B, I removed a couple unused drivers from the driver store (old webcam drivers etc.), I installed Halo Reach.

This was moved to gaming, but it doesn't really have anything to do with gaming but with generally opening an application.

Regardless, BIOS version I've found is irrelevant after downgrading. Here's a list of things I have tried:

    • Repair vcredist
    • DDU
    • Manual uninstall (deleting programdata and reg keys)
    • Windows 7 compatibility mode
    • Attempting to launch with a new admin user
    • Attempting to launch in Safe mode
    • Downgrade chipset driver version
    • Disabling AV and Firewall

Just to double check, you are talking about the EA's Origin game client, right?

Assuming that, I have Origin and have no issues after BIOS / driver updates, or game installs, but I'm on an Intel system. No experience with AMD systems, though I've heard things about AGESA causing issues...

    AGESA 1.0.0.4 B BIOS "upgrade" borked - (Nov 18, 2019)
AGESA Bugged, Causing Audio Problems in Various Games - Apr 23, 2018)

Perhaps you should check with some of the AMD forums on this?

It could be that the Privacy settings for the background services in the browser are turned off.
See what background applications are turned on or off. I find if Edge background services are off, she wont even stream audio through the browser unless the page is being viewed on screen, and anything minimized automatically shuts off.
    Hope this might help

    Huh?

Please explain so that people know what to look for and where to look for what you suppose. BTW I don't see that having anything to do with Origin starting.

Correct, I have and people reflect that they haven't had problems with Origin. I downgraded my BIOS, including AGESA version to 1.0.0.3 ABBA and I still can't launch it.

Unfortunately, I've no suggestions why it's not working on your system. But as I said earlier, you might check the AMD forums. Or perhaps hope someone here with an AMD build and using Origin chimes in.

whichever way you go make sure posters understand you're running an AMD system, because as I said, AGESA seems to be problematic with games and stuff.

    Good luck.

OP if you double click on Origin and it does not open, use task manager and see if there are any "origin.exe" procesess.

If you find them, doesn't matter how many there are 1, 2, 3 etc. exes then force close them. I've had this happen a number of times with Origin back when i was on Windows 7 and the reason is ussually when Origin wants to update itself but it can't.

After you close all "origin.exe", reboot your PC and open Origin again, it should update properly now.

It never is, the only process that may run is WebHelper. Even after ending it, it doesn't open.
