Rather than type out a load of text I'm in a lazy mood today so ...

    Steam (service) - Wikipedia

You can install the base software and you can then download games to play on the system, some are free but the majority are paid for - There are a number of support sites to get you started

If you play Steam games, you will need the client as it manages the licenses and updates for your games. So if you buy games from Steam, you will need their client.

You can buy valid licenses from 3rd party websites such as fanatical.com and they'l activate with Steam.

In today's world you have to have a client like Steam, Battle>Net, Origin..ETC to play any game.

Yep...which kinda sucks by forcing one to be online in order to play a game. I like to the good old days of playing off line, inserting my disc and either playing of dics or using the installer which doesn't need the disc. I miss those days.

Moving on with the new and out with the old I suppose.....now for some L4D2!

    Hi,
I haven't used it but steam does have an option to use non steam available games.
Whether they will work/ activate or not I imagine is 50-50% from ebay.

Just google Steam, download and install it, then follow the account setup and log in.. You can even add non-steam games to your account. Not done that so I can't say as how well that works.
