    Force (Resolution Scaling / Under Scaling) on games / apps possible ?


    So I lately discovered that Japanese game makers adopted an amazing trend in their games that is sometimes referred to as Resolution Scaling and sometimes as Under Scaling , the trend copies from Anti-aliasing but inversely , so instead of rendering at double+ res then resizing to normal to smooth edges of rendered objects they rather render at half size then stretch to normal size adding a blur effect , this trend manages to boost frame rates significantly and yet give some reality touch to their games .

    Now I wonder if that thing can be forcefully / virtually achieved on other games using a trick or a tool , I am not sure if it is a directx / opengl native feature or a patented one of course but is worth considering by all developers .

    Most newer monitors do this already, upscaling has been a thing for years, set your resolution to something less than your native resolution and watch it work :)

    We can easily scale our resolution by just changing some settings from display settings from our system but it doesn't show that much difference and to achieve that things which you are saying then you will have to change your resolution to less than your then check whether it's working or not otherwise there is no need to do that because we can get newer monitors which support free sync which gives a great fps.

    Nothing new, goes back maybe 20+ years, just a variation of what is in the various Graphics APIs.

    Upscaling is done all the time with digital displays, not just with high resolution monitors.

    You can set games to run at a lower resolution and the monitor will scale it up. The game itself will produce more fps at a lower resolution because it has less rendering work to do.

    All of the above is correct less that blur effect to substitute for stair casing issues of low res , so anybody knows a mean to blur an under scaled / low res game ? :)

    Anti-Aliasing, specifically FXAA, it's the base method of blurring an image overall to get a cleaner, less staircasey game/video

    so yea i just found out id software use it too in its most recent games doom and doom eternal , so yea they use it but with a more advanced version of anti-aliasing that is called TSSAA 8x , the result is more amazing than leaving it to normal scan . seriously guys you need to try that effect :)

    It helps a lot with high resolutions too, especially newer versions of Anti-Aliasing, MSAA works a treat in most cases (providing the game supports it).
