You can basically just copy and paste the steamapps folder from the steam directory.

After re-installing steam, just click install on games that were in the steamapps folder and Steam will automatically discover the files of a game that you are installing.

Games or saves for those games? When you reinstall Windows, you can just run steam (if it is on D too) and games will be still there, you will just need to run each, one by one, to re-register them.

    Hi there
depending on the size of your "D" drive why not just "Clone it" with Macrium (Free) or similar. That should avoid any re-registration - why not test -- image your Windows system, clone your "D" drive or copy the partition your games are in. Now restore the lot and see if it all works.

If you have a large "D" drive you could partition it (use primary partitions not logical ones and ensure the disk is GPT) and have your steam games on their own partition - would show up in Windows as Drive "E" or whatever. That would make copying the partition far easier and smaller.

    Cheers

I do this all the time. Since your games are on another drive, reinstalling Windows shouldn't wipe them out, as long as you don't accidentally wipe your D: drive. Once Windows is reinstalled and you install Steam, you can just go into Steam's settings, go to Downloads, click on the Steam Library Folders button and then specify in the window that pops up where your games are located by clicking Add Library Folder.

That's why I always have my Steam games installed on separate drives from Windows.
