Virtual Reality Headset ..... worth it ?

For a good, no BS VR, it can be quite expensive.
The one I have in mind is ……..Oculus Go Standalone Virtual Reality Headset – 64GB
And that is the cheapest one, around $300 CDN.

MY question is : Is it worth it ? Yes, I have "playing games" in mind.

I bet the pure gamers will say "NO", but I am not a diehard gamer.

    What do you think ?

I would say it's worth it. VR offers a lot of nice stuff. It cost a little more but it's worth it.

After further consideration, I have decided to go for one of those "cheap" models which require smart phone inserted into it.
This is the one I chose...….VR Headset Virtual Reality Headset 3D VR Goggles , plus the remote control.
A total of $56.98 is far cry from $299 investment.

Whether it is "clear head prevails" or "dumb move" remains to be seen.

I got headaches, eye fatigue and motion sickness after half an hour when playing VR games on the Vive when it first came out. And this is apparently one of the 'better' VR headsets available. Haven't tried VR since. It quickly reminded me of stereoscopic 3D, same gimmick just with more cables and strapped goggles around my face. I can definitely see the appeal to it, when it works, but I am one of those people who can immerse myself in games without need of virtual reality. If I want a similar experience I would probably get a tri-screen setup, or a 21:9/32:9 monitor. But that's just my take on it. There will be many others who will say the opposite. VR is something you need to experience yourself to fully give a verdict on.

Watch movies, mainly from YouTube and Netflix, and play games.

Yes I have heard of some getting headaches and motion sickness from VR headsets. IMHO it should be a try before you buy scenario. There was an E sport event in Montreal during the summer. Sadly the line ups for trying out VR were way too long. I went on the go carts instead . No I wasn't racing kids. Most were 30+.

VR isn't only about the hardware. It also needs good game implementation. Slightly Mad Studios (Project Cars 2) worked very closely with Nvidia on VR. I know some guys who take sim racing very seriously and they tell me P Cars 2 VR is excellent. It is not only totally immersive but they claim it improves their lap times as they are able to see and focus on their braking points much better.

Check out this P Cars 2 VR video. They are typically done by experienced sim racers and most get as excited as this guy when they put on a VR headset.

It will be my first time on VR, an experiment. That's why I decided on a "cheap" model. Worse comes to worst, I'll return it to Amazon.ca.
