    Disable game mode

    Other than
    Enable (and disable) Game Mode

    • Inside your game, press Windows Key + G to open the Game Bar.
    • This should release your cursor. Now, find the Game Mode icon on the right side of the bar as shown below.
    • Click to toggle Game Mode on or off.
    • Click on your game or press ESC to hide the Game Bar.

which doesn't open a game bar, is there another way to disable? Some kind of workaround?

    TYVM :)

TY for your help, I was able to get the game bar open, but it had no on/off toggle. Is that normal? Honestly, I'm not even sure that's my problem. Whichever game I'm playing (Diablo III or Path of Exile) the screen will minimize, even while the win key is disabled. Is it in fact the game mode or do you know what's causing that? This is a new PC.

    Thx again :)

I can't think of a reason unless you have it disabled in the settings somewhere. I don't use it so am not that familiar with it.

That guide is way out of date, it changes a bit every version update, this is for 1809.

Settings > Gaming > Game Mode, I leave that ON all the time which makes sense to me

Game Bar > ON/OFF, your choice.

Captures > Various options to your choice, background recording ON/OFF, for screenshots, video captures etc.

Win+G gives you the Game Bar, assuming it's ON.

Note Game Mode ON/OFF, is not the same as Game Bar ON/OFF.

The first does nothing visible, just prioritises Games when used, think it defaults to ON.

You will have to ask Microsoft for the details, and have some basic knowledge about applications and resource usage.
All it means is when you run a game the maximum amount of resources, highest priority, are made available to that game(application).

People with any sense would only run the Game, and as little as possible at the same time as a matter of course. So quite redundant for most people.

    I would agree with Helmut.

"Game mode is a feature in Windows 10 that focuses system resources on games when enabled.

In our tests, we found that Game Mode didn't have a huge impact on higher-end systems, but if you're prone to multi-tasking or have lots of processes running in the background, Game Mode could be useful to you."

Personally I haven't noticed any gaming performance differences with it on or off. But that doesn't mean it doesn't work. I tend to stay away from apps I don't need and run in the background plus perhaps I'm part of the higher end system group.
