Gaming in W10 is an absolute pain

Hi, I haven't played games for some time after they ceased to be playable direct on W7 and before.
I purchased The Age of Empires - Definitive Edition and since then have had constant problems. First it won't load claiming I'm not 'on-line'. It takes a number of attempts to get past this to be then told we are waiting for X-Box to sync. Eventually you actually get to play - well for a while and then it crashes. With statements of Windows not closed correctly and other faults.
Why, oh why can't a game be installed direct to W10 and behave as it used to in W7. I like W10 with the exception of gaming. Will Microsoft please sort this out.

This is an unfortunate change in the game industry. Everything has to be online, connected and ran through DRM. What you are referring to however are UWP games, which in theory sounds awesome, but in usability is abysmal. AoE: DE is broken too and you're not the only one, and most of it are related to connection issues. It's been plagued since February and Microsoft is taken their sweet time fixing them. If you want executables you should look at buying games on GoG and Steam instead. The former being DRM-free. You won't get AoE: DE there (it's exclusive to the Microsoft Store), but why buy something that doesn't work.

Thank you Faith for a prompt reply. I shall certainly have a look at the Sites you mention and hope to find something suitable to my requirements. I like the strategy type games and also only play solo. Hopefully I may find a suitable executable game to satisfy me.
    Regards.

I would also recommend Steam as the game updates get pushed to you rather than you having to hunt for patches.
