Games not running as they should be (not NVIDIA control panel)

Hi there I would really appreciate it if someone could lend me a hand with trying to tackle this problem I have.

Yesterday I reset my laptop because I was wanting to get it fresh and clean for college and get rid of all the apps and such that came with it as I purchased it recently.
I started using it today and I downloaded some drivers like NVIDIA and Nahimic and then a game that I sometimes play, its a very easy to run game that I should have no problem running on my laptop as it is an i7 7700, gtx 1060, 16G model.
But for some reason the game hovers around 30-60fps, the resolution also doesnt look right on the game and various other applications, but not the Windows interface.
I should mention that I have tried everything in NVIDIA control panel, changing all the settings to high performance GPU, and for some reason I cant right click apps and choose what graphics card to use like I used to before I reset. I think it might be something to do with the drivers but I am too scared to start configuring them without advice from someone.

Would really appreciate help as it is really bugging me. :)

Have you set the in game settings? Most games have graphics settings. First make sure your resolution is set right and change some of the settings which puts a lot of demand on the GPU, but in game make little difference.

Yeah I've got the settings within the game the way they should be.

Maybe your's is different, but my Laptop has an older Nvidia card and I can set the preferred graphics processor in the Nvidia Control panel.

That is a global setting but you can also set it per program by clicking the Program setting tab at the top.

Yeah I have all my control panel settings set to the high performance processor, literally everything. Still when I load into the game it looks shakey and low res. :/ . I think its something to do with the NVIDIA driver and the Intel one but im a massive noob so Im not sure how to go about it

I should also mention that even on the integrated graphics my laptop should still be running this game perfectly as it is very undemanding

I never have gamed on my laptop, it's really my Wife's laptop so I am not real good with laptops. But, it almost sounds like it is trying to run from your Intel graphics.

Right click the start icon and select device manager. Go to Display adapters, click the small arrow to the left and tell me what it says. It should list the Intel and Nvidia GPUs by name.

Also, what game is it you are playing? Have you tried lowering the graphics settings to get your FPS higher?

The game doesnt have graphics settings because it is very very easy to run, its definitely nothing in there. Would reinstalling my graphics drivers damage my laptop or could I try that?

yes, it may. Try going to your laptop on MSI's website and download the Nvidia driver from there to your desktop. I may suggest you install MSI Afterburner from MSI also just to monitor what the card is doing. Also download Display Driver Uninstaller. Open DDU and go into settings and enable safe mode and close the program. Uninstall all the Nvidia graphics selections making sure to uninstall the Graphics driver last. When you uninstall the graphics driver you will have to reboot. Don't do it yet. Open DDU and select reboot to safe mode. When you come back into safe mode run display driver uninstaller, ONLY SELECTING NVIDIA DRIVERS. it will clean out any left overs that Windows didn't get. Then reboot back into normal mode and install the driver you downloaded from MSI. You should be able to select custom install. Select only the Graphics Drivers and PhysX. Make sure the 'clean install' box is checked. You don't need any of the other drivers.

Many, if not all, laptop manufacturers alter the graphics drivers and the drivers from Nvidia will not work most of the time. During this process don't bother any of the Intel graphics drivers.

Has your game run OK on that laptop before? And alo, those instructions sound complicated. They aren't. You will see they are pretty simple.
