Mafia 2 freezing at start of game on Windows 10

mafia 2 loads okay but as soon as I start playing it freezes, looking in properties it does not have a compatibility setting and in game options does not have a windowed option either, ACPI x64 based PC- Radeon (TM)RX 460.

    Hi and Welcome!

Have you tried to do a reinstall of the game?

I had this problem as well, but I fixed it by verifying the files (if you have it on Steam) and that had fixed it.

Could you send us the error message you get (if you do get one)? It will be a huge help.

It literally freezes your entire computer? That's not good. Have you updated your AMD graphics driver? Mafia 2 should work on Windows 10, so the Os is not the main cultprit here. Can you see any graphics corruption or hear any audio loops when the game freezes? Open the Windows event Viewer and try to find an error that looks related to the issue you're having at that timeframe it occured. Maybe this can tell more.

Have you tried disabling the Steam overview? Sometimes games that are 5+ years old on Steam can freeze, crash or cause glitches with the game you are playing.

Could you send us your computer specs? It'll be easier for us to know what might be causing it when we see it.

EDIT: Never mind that last line, noticed the "My Computer" drop-down, sorry. I can recommend you a website that will scan your computer and show if your computer specs will run Mafia 2 if you would like?

You'll need to download a MSI file that will scan your computer for what hardware you are using after your first search (no viruses are with the download as well), so in this case search "Mafia II". It will show you what the minimum and recommended specs are for Mafia and any other game that you have in your game collection. If you could take a screenshot of it and show it to us in the Recommended or Minimum (both or Minimum will show, if it's both show Recommended).

That's weird then. I'm using the GOG copy of Mafia II: Director's Cut, it doesn't freeze at all.
