Lost icons for M/S XBox games for PC

Have been playing Gears of War 4 and Quantum Break, both of which I bought from the Windows Store to run on Windows PCs.

I had both icons in my Taskbar prior to the Fall CU update but both are gone now. The only way I can play these games is to go into the XBox tile, go to store, and search for each game. Once the search completes, I can click on the tile and select 'Play' from the game's display (see attached). However, there is no way from this page to actually put the game's icon back on the desktop.

I've searched for each game in the Windows folder and found each game executable. However, I get the following error when trying to start from there.

If I launch from the store page, the game runs fine.

How can I get those missing icons back on the desktop?

Thanks and Happy New Year to all.

    Hello rzn6jw, )

If the game is listed in your Start menu All apps list, then you can drag and drop the icon from the Start menu to your desktop create a shortcut of the game on your desktop.

No, the game icons have disappeared from all locations. Used to be in the Start Menu and on the taskbar but not any more.

In that case, you could try to uninstall the game for your account, then resinstall it from the Store to see if that may restore it back to the Start menu for you.

But I would lose all my progress in those games, wouldn't I?

It could. Let's see if it game is listed in the folder below. If so you can drag and drop it to your desktop to create a shortcut.

I did an icon cache rebuild and one game icon came back but it's listed now has 'NEW" in the description, even though I've been playing it off and on for months. However, the other was missing - it's not even listed in Programs and Features, yet it's installed and I can play it via the above.

Good news so far. The "New" label should go away on its own after a bit. Usually after you open it the first time though.

Checked in regedit and it looks like the APP is looking at a default icon that doesn't exist, also. I'll try to edit the entry to point to one that is in the APP folder and see what happens. I'll also check into an uninstall program that maybe will find the files and delete them since they aren't in Programs and Features.
