All videos games are to me are interactive films. So yeah, video grain can work, but to me (and as a B&W film enthusiast) it looks better in B&W. Anyway I think the goal is to provide a more dark mood in games.
I used it when I played both Deus Ex Human Revolution and Mankind Divided and liked it. Didn't seem to impact performance there. Currently have it enabled in Cyberpunk.

Are you guys talking about the film grain that comes in addition to Nvidia sharpening? I found it made Evior's face in Valhalla look really spotty.
I have one game "Flying tigers, shadows over China" that has options for B&W and Sepia which has film grain. It looks like old gun camera films from WWII.
