Thanks specialK and Faith. The game runs very well, it's very enjoyable. Only problem I still face is the intermittent GPU drops which spoils the otherwise near flawless performance. I have been troubleshooting this for months now and am no closer to fixing it. I just received a replacement graphics card from EVGA this week and although the new card seems better I am still exhibiting intermittent drops.
Shadow of the Tomb Raider is $29.99 right now.

ya you should, it's one of my favorite Ac games so far I think, next to Ezio and Ac2. Really enjoying the focus on roleplaying, dialogue options and inventory management, although I can easily see this being a negative aspect for some. And it's HUGE, but not cluttered like in Unity. Oddysey is gorgeous too, but what is up with those volumetric clouds in performance?! 20% difference from very high to ultra. I play on very high and it's running quite nicely on my system. I see it's quite cpu hungry, but thankfully I have 6 cores.
Don't expect to finish Odyssey in a hurry, it's humongous! I suppose you could try to whip through the main quests but a lot of the main story requires a lot of side quests to be done. I think Ubisoft geared it up that way.
Did you just get Odyssey @Faith? Has anyone slayed any mythical creatures yet?
Yes ditch the volumetric clouds! I use medium... I actually use low AA for this game as there is not much noticeable difference but a lot of performance hit at higher levels. The game has major issues with unnecessary CPU bottlenecking which spoils it a bit and that was the same with AC Origins. Watch out for fire too, fire eats fps in this game. I regularly get spikes to 99-100% on my 8 core CPU and that should not happen. Anyway I seemed to strike a balance in my graphics that gives me fairly fluid and enjoyable gameplay. Soak in the sun on the islands!
I haven't noticed much side quest grinds to progress the main story. I've done very few of them because I want focus on the story. It's well written and performed and I like it. Not sure if this has been changed over the months I'ts been out (maybe the grind was worse before? I recently got it). I killed a mercenary and I almost got a whole level for it, so the experience points and progress -- so far at least -- aren't bad like I've seen talks of, with the Xp boost packs controversy. I am in Athens and the level requirement for the quests scales with my level it seems.
About the fire, yes! Wtf Ubisoft must've used some fire physics because it eats my cpu's and framerate. The clouds looks boring on medium. The difference between high and very high isn't bad so that's why I use very high. Ultra on the other hand is crazy. On Vh preset I get average 60 fps, 80 highs and dips to 40 with those fires and heavy city scenes. Perfectly playable in a game like this.
