    That original Doom was what started PC gaming for me. Had a GF at the time who was insanely good at Doom. Of course, she could type 65 words a minute so maybe that helped.

    Actually, it was Wolfenstein that came before Doom and largely first "3D" game, Doom just took it one notch up in graphics and play. Hexen was next, introducing up and down ramps as opposed of flat surface. None of those were actually 3D as characters were made only by several pictures and not real 3D as now.

    Wolfenstein and Doom aren't three dimentional last time I checked, and Wolfenstein aren't the first game of its kind either, The 3rd Catacombs pre-dates it. Descent came out before Hexen with mostly full polygon meshes, there could be others before it but I don't know of them. If we add vectors as "3D" we can find games that's fairly ancient.
