I don't like the cartoon character type games, but I'm not wedded to absolute high end graphics either.
I like a game that's... good.
Things that make a game good IMO...
Generally, an RPG
PvM rather than PvP
Quests that are hard, but solvable.
I like quality quests rather than quantity.
I don't appreciate a lot of crafting, just to flesh out the game.
I don't like games you can't... SAVE when necessary.
I also like games with hefty character creation.
Most important of all, I like games with decent controls.
That means mouse and a "few" keyboard controls, or a joystick for action games.
I'm not a big fan of XBox/PS? controllers or WASD.
And unless I'm playing a 3 yr. old character that still sucks it's thumb... all these crouch, jump, walk, run, slide, etc., controls are just stupid.
Any adult character should know how to automatically do those things already.
I'm also not a fan of the 17 move kill either. When you whack something with a sword a few times, it should go down.
Same with guns, etc.
Alt, Ctrl, X, 3, F6, //, Space, z9... etc., does not a realistic weapon make. LOL
And last but not least, all games should come with cheat codes. So the 2nd or 5th time you play the game, you're not running back and forth to sell... 570 wolf skins, or whatever, so you can buy a sword.
Like DOOM, came with the cheat codes on the CD. That's as it should be.
Games should be... fun... not work. If I want reality... I can just open the front door.
Continuing the thread, anyone been reading this topic would notice that i'm only into JRPG, ARPG and SRPG games.
To me, beside enjoying good gameplay and story, i also enjoy the background scene, main characters, especially female :),
objects and music/ sound effects. Therefore nice graphics and audio is also one of the reasons that i choose a game.
Of couse i keep my resolution at 720p, fps at 60, audio at 24bit 44khz reasonable graphics details so that i can enjoy everything without tiring me out. My first gaming console was the atari 2600 and i grow up playing games and it just get better as i grow.
Well, I'm not into run and gun shooters. I much prefer story-based games where other approaches to accomplishing a task is preferred, and puzzles challenge the mind. it's not about running and gunning and blowing heads off. That's me.
Anyway, contrary to what I wrote, I do stop to "smell the roses" in stopping to enjoy the scenery before me. Case in point is Cyberpunk 2077's Night City. The graphics here are impressive and Night City is a site to behold. There are times in the game where I did nothing but walk around as I marveled at the graphics (and lighting). Want good graphics, Cyberpunk 2077
But there are also those games where the graphics aren't so great, but the game play is, or the game is dated, but the game is still good. Here, its not about graphics, but the enjoyment of the game. YMMV
I really enjoy how responsive and realistic gaming has matured, it's a great release from reality. Been hooked on shooters since Doom and Duck Hunt, if I'm not ripping, tearing or riddling them with bullets, I just get bored.
I'm science (Mass Effect) / fantasy (Dragon Age) based in my games (whether FPS or RPG). BTW my favorite game of all time is Unreal.
Here's my top 5 games all time which still holds today (not listed is the Mass Effect trilogy, I just don't know what it would replace in my top 5) - What would be your stand out SP FPS picks from the last 5 years? - Windows 10 Forums
