I had the same problem. I reinstalled the drivers, did all manner of experimentation to try for a fix, I finally discovered the actual problem. Win 10 apparently RANDOMLY had turned on "Filter Keys" in "Ease of Access". I discovered this when I inadvertently held down a key while carrying the notebook. It's not a "delay" - the keyboard simply won't react unless you hold down each key for a second! It looks like the keyboard is disabled. But it still works fine... Ease of Access-turn off filter keys. To check it, simply hold down a key and see if it eventually reacts.

Hello everyone. I was searching internet for my problem and I saw that many people have the same problem with me.
My problem started from a blue screen then after shutdown when i press a key on by k/b or mouse my pc automatically boots.
Also when it started both k/b and mouse wasnt working. It was like they didnt have enough power!

After a lot of searching I found the solution...

    1) Go to device manager (right click on My Computer, manage), go to Device Manager and click on Keyboards
    2) Right click --> Properties on every device there and go to Power Management section. There remove the tick about booting the pc from this device.
    3) Do the same on Mice and other pointing

And you are ok! Sorry for my bad english
I apologize if this fix has been offered already, but I didn't read through every single response.

I've been plagued by this issue for some time now, but going through the Windows Repair (by unplugging the machine on startup cuz I don't have a PS/2 mouse & kb) and doing a system restore to a point where it would work was a start.

However I found on another site (Fix issue: USB Ports not Working in Windows 10 - Driver Easy suggestion #2) a fix that worked for me and I wanted to share here. Basically follow the quoted thread, but additionally I had goto the Universal Serial Bus controllers > USB Root Hub > Properties > Power Management > Uncheck "all the computer to turn off this device to save power" option. Thanks to savvasferrari for the initial leg work. Not sure if this was the actual fix or a combination, but after 3 reboots its working perfectly.

    HOPEFULLY THIS HELPS SOMEONE ELSE!

    Hi everyone,

After searching through the net after the same problem, I was perturbed by the responses that tells me to "go and click on...", but how can you do it without access to your mouse and keyboard !!

So, for posterity, I want to give my solution to this, in case it may help someone that falls into this pit. In my case, it was an installation of a bluetooth driver that totally blows off my USB drivers, and guess what ? My mouse and keyboard are in USB...

Hopefuly, I had activated "Remote access in RDP" with my win 10 computer. So what I simply did is take control on my computer in remote desktop and delete the faulty driver. After a reboot all went fine !

Damn... I do not needed that, 2 hours lost for that simple solution :-/.

Hope you will not loose that precious time :).

    Bye.

How exactly am I supposed to do this if my MOUSE and KEYBOARD are not working?
Use the keyboard that you can make appear on your desktop. Start with Cortana and use a microphone. It can be found in "accessories "in settings

Hi I just updated to Windows 10 today and my laptop keyboard would not respond, nor would my mouse touch pad. I do use an external wireless mouse which did not have this issue luckily. Anyway I contacted a friend who works on my computer and here is what we did. I went to control panel, Then device manager, then keyboards, Click on keyboard and then double click on your keyboard. This brings up a screen with your keyboard properties. On this screen, select the driver tab. Click on uninstall near the bottom. Verify the uninstall and then you will need to restart your computer. Once I restarted somehow it automatically detected the driver for my keyboard and reinstalled it. After that it has worked fine.
Thanks a lot for this. A friend with Windws 10 <spit> could no longer use his beloved PS/2 mouse. The removing the driver trick worked a charm!

    What happened to me was...

I got a trial of Windows 10 Enterprise and installed as a dual boot alongside Windows 7. Once getting through the installation, I downloaded an installed Chrome browser, and with it, found my video card driver and installed it. At that point, I rebooted, and came up to the lock screen with the pretty picture and the clock on it. My mouse and keyboard didn't work, I tried hooking up corded mice/keyboards, changing BIOS settings, repairing/reinstalling Windows (which I did three times) all to no avail.

Here's how I fixed it. I booted from the Windows 10 install disc I made from Microsoft's Win10 .iso, and formatted the partition I made for Windows 10 and installed it there for a third time. After the installation, I went into Explorer, right-clicked "This PC" in the navigation pane, clicked "Remote settings", then clicked the option to "Allow remote connections to this computer" and left the check box below it checked. Then, because I am on a domain at my work (home users needn't bother with this, you can't anyways lol), I joined my computer to the domain. Before restarting, I pressed the Windows key, typed "cmd" and pressed enter, then typed "ipconfig" and pressed enter. I wrote down what was displayed to the right of IPv4 Address (should be something similar to 192.168.1.XX), and then restarted the computer.

On bootup, lo and behold, can't use keyboard or mouse. I went to another computer and logged on, pressed the Windows key, then typed "mstsc" and pressed enter. In the blank for "Computer:" I typed the address I wrote down and clicked "Connect". Once remoted into the problematic computer remotely, I opened Windows Explorer, right-clicked "This PC" in the navigation pane, and clicked "Manage". Then under Computer Management -> System Tools, I clicked "Device Manager".

In Device Manager, the category "Universal Serial Bus controllers" was already expanded, and 4 items were listed below it: Intel(R) USB 3.0 eXtensible Host Controller - 1.0 (Microsoft), Intel(R) USB 3.1 eXtensible Host Controller - 1.0 (Microsoft), and USB Root Hub (xHCI) was listed twice. 2 of those items had the down arrow icon on them indicating they were unloaded: Intel(R) USB 3.0 eXtensible Host Controller - 1.0 (Microsoft), and one of the entries for USB Root Hub (xHCI). I right-clicked each, and selected "Enable", then a bunch of entries populated under "Universal Serial Bus controllers". Upon exiting the "Computer Management" window, I believe it asked me to reboot, which I did. I then went back over to the PC that had rebooted, and logged on just fine using my mouse and keyboard.

    I hope this helps someone!

It does not work to just uninstall and install the driver in the properties of the Keyboard (driver)
Yup, worked. But dang, they really hid device manager. Can't even remember now how I got there.

Go to directory. At PC computes and right click. Choose properties and you will find on the menu item at the top left. Alternately write device manager in cortan and it will come up.

    windows 10 updated version
       #60

hi, had the windows 10 update in Dec '17, keyboard and touch pad failed after, although I got touchpad working. USB keyboard fine, trawled the net and tried EVERYTHING on here (and more) i could find to get the drivers to update/work with no success. After few weeks, maybe i should get a new keyboard or at least look at what the old one is before I buy (although I knew full well it wasn't broken). Saw how to get it out so had a go. Disconnected and reconnected (with battery out of course), fired it back up and hey. It works. Now, was it the battery disconnection that did it or the keyboard. Who knows, who cares, it worked. Utterly bizarre. All on an HP G6 laptop.
    Thanks Microsoft! not ...
