Xbox one wireless adapter problems

Does anyone here have issues with their Xbox one wireless adapter showing an “!” In the device manager after a reboot? Unplugging/plugging it back in resolves that but sometimes the controller still won’t sync and I have to reboot again to get it working.

I’ve already uninstalled the adapter from the device manager and had it delete the driver files, which forces a full reinstall once it’s plugged in. Also switched between 2.0/3.0 ports with the same result.

Looks like I’m the only one with this issue.

They’re cheap enough, so I ordered another adapter in hopes it’s a problem with the adapter itself. I’ve tested the USB ports with other devices and they work fine.

New adapter has worked fine up until last night where it threw a code 10 after a system restart. Unplugged/plugged and it’s recognized, but controller won’t sync. Restart got things working again.

The previous adapter also had occasional code 10 problems.

So far I’ve nuked/paved system, bought a second adapter, tried different ports, manually installed newest adapter drivers from update catalogue site, I don’t believe there is a motherboard issue as this is the only usb device that has problems.

None of the cookie cutter Troubleshootibg stuff on MS’s site works.

The only thing I haven’t tried is installing ASRock’s Intel chipset drivers. I’m hesitant to do so because they predate the FCU by about 2-3 years and aacording to the device manager everything is installed and working.

Do not know if you already done this, but you could try to change the power settings of your controller.

Change power settings
Perhaps the most common solution for Xbox Wireless Controller error code 10 is changing its power settings. Windows 10 has an option to allows the system to turn off some peripheral devices in order to save power. So, all you need to do is turn this feature off.
Here’s exactly what you need to do:
Go to Search, type devicemng, and open Device Manager
Expand the Network Adapters section
Right click on Xbox Wireless Adapter for Windows
Click on the Power Management tab
Uncheck Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power
After performing this, restart your computer.

Already tried that unfortunately, but would that setting even be relevant directly after a reboot?

I'm about to the point of junking the motherboard.

Update:

Upgraded to a bigger HDD and fresh installed. Problem remains.

I’ve tested both XBONE adapter on an 8yr old AMD rig with an identical software load out and they work flawlessly. Pretty sad they don’t work with a rig built in 2016. Adding insult to injury Xbox360 wireless dongles work great on this PC. Shame the D-pads are complete garbage on those.....

Maybe when I decide to waste another $25 I’ll buy the redesigned smaller XBONE adapter and see if those work.
