I do things a little different. After suffering a RAW condition on my data drive after a W10 upgrade, I disconnect the data drive by removing the sata cable rather than the power cable. I made it easier by mounting the HDD in the case with the connectors facing out rather than inside the case. I lean the side cover against the case for easy access (due to the frequent insider updates). Removable drive tray in front allows switching in/out either W10FCU or W10insider SSD, portable usb drive for storing iso and images. Power down, do the switch, disconnect the data HHD, swap the ssd < 15 seconds. YMMV

Of course, with FCU, you can set up protected access folders which you could store backups in.

Macrium Reflect Home (paid version) now has a feature called Macrium Image Guardian which is designed to keep images safe from ransonware/malware attacks. You can only delete backups from within Macrium. Of course, that will not help if a hacker got full remote control of pc.

I backup to an internal drive but periodically copy backups to an external drive that I only put online for making a secondary backup.

Really appreciate all the good ideas! After extensive research, I have elected to go with CountMike's suggestion and go with a removable hd bay. Will see how that goes! Thanks people!

Four bay Icy Dock came in today. Got her installed and can't believe I never looked at this before. Real time saver and not near as hard on the drives as the way I was doing it! Took my backup os drive out of the bay and put it in a drawer in less than 4secionds! Thanks again CountMike!
