Just finding this thread now. Been on the TechPowerup Realtek Unlocked thread for years. Anyone knowledgeable talking about it here? as Dolby and DTS are broken yet again this year in 14986.
YES I referenced it a few days ago in fact

but unless doogie wants to take a look at it, I think the guys in that forum are the best bet to find a solution

that was more of a mod to an existing driver than an update anyway

(though I must admit having individual dolby and dolby dts controls is nice, you must admit that with every new driver release the modification might need to be rewritten)

i generally dont see mods here just updating to new releases

I'm more likely to think it's Microsoft's problem again, but... I can't say for sure.

I just... don't understand why this happens every year in a November/December Insider build...

jgr9, now thats hardly fair isnt it? the very code itself is based on a hack of the original realtek driver, and then in order to install it you are required to turn off microsofts own signature enforcement in order to install it. .im not saying it was bad software, after all I used it too, but in all fairness the software is designed to "trick" the very protections microsoft uses to keep our systems safe.

basically you're saying its the guns fault, and not the person who pulled the trigger.. Microsoft cannot be blamed when you deliberately use a piece of hacked software, and then turn off the very safeguards in windows that are designed to protect you.... so microsoft is breaking nothing, if anything, We are breaking windows when we use hacked software

As far as I know, Microsoft charges developers to sign their drivers. So it is common for hacked versions to be unsigned. There are means to sign it yourself without Microsoft's involvement (not remember how right now) so you can install them as usual.

lol guys, It's not about that... and the signed drivers thing hasn't been an issue with it for a long time. The point I'm making here is that every year with a Windows build, Realtek Optical Dolby and DTS (as the default format) breaks for everyone on that Realtek hardware, even those with the normal drivers and Dolby license.

I updated and latest version sounds good to me, at least on my system.

That's because Windows Update based on hardware IDs downloads the universal Realtek driver without the Dolby Digital and DTS extensions. The solution is to manually update to the latest "extended" driver and then use the show/hide tool to hide and disable any Realtek HD audio updates.

No, that is not why... I am well aware of how the update system works and what drivers I have installed.
