You shouldn't see the levels there because the digital data pass directly to the amplifier, the sound doesn't play from the audio card! It's in pass-through mode. Check if you can hear sound from the amplifier. If you don't you have configured something wrong. Also try a different player such as PowerDVD, don't rely on VLC only.

    so, yes. you are right
no indication should be there, my wrong
    but still no sound:)
btw, i managed to configure kmp and mpc to play 5.1 dts (with the help of filters)
still no succes in vlc, i used it in summer though
i think it's somehow connected to the fact, that there is no sound whilу playng test

i use edifier Edifier C6XD as my output device

Have a closer look at the advanced sound settings. Please don't make me install VLC just to tell you where it is...

    So, finally i got it
5.1 speakers with digital optical i/p
Yes, if edifier doesn't have dts/dolby decoder built-in I get no sound in windows test.
So I should use filters like in kmp and mpc
omg, sorry for taking your time
It means something changed in vlc with last updates, gonna check in google.
    ty for replies btw!

Hi guys I have a problem with my sound. I have Asus F555 laptop, Winsows 10 clean instal. The sound quality has never been very good. Even with max volume it hasn't been very loud . After the Anniversary Update the volume level got even lower. That is a big problem as I'm hard of hearing. Now I have troubles to hear even with the max volume. I'd like to get at least to the pre AU loudness level. But when I update my driver I have no sound at all.

The original driver is 7620. On Asus web site there is only 7620 listed, no newer driver version. I tried to update to several different versions but I always lost my sound completely and had to roll back to 7620 and low volume. Right now I'm on 7968 downloaded from MC, it's even the version made for Asus specifically, but still no sound. S

Am I doing something wrong? Why no other version than 7620 works on my system?

I noticed when I update only the sound, video and game controllers version of realtek driver changes. The microphone and the speaker driver version remains the same and it's some weird number 10.0.14393.0 Latest Realtek HD Audio Driver Version [archive]-ice_screenshot_20161204-192043.png Shall I update those too? I always update it using the Realtek setup and it only changes the sound, video and game controllers version.

By the way I have a problem with my microphone too. It's ok using the recorder built in Windows, but when I Oovoo the mic volume is too low and in Skype it's even lower, the other person can't hear me. I tried all the tricks in settings and nothing increases the volume so I reckon it's a driver related problem too.

btw 2: I know there are special settings for people with a bad sight in Windows to ease them access. Isn't there anything similar for people with a bad hearing? I'm partially deaf and any advice that helps me increase the volume level of my system is greatly appreciated.
