Latest Realtek HD Audio Driver Version [archive]

yeah, im not not sure exactly anymore coz it always shows VIA for the front (case) connection but ive had Realtek driver installed before this windows update and it all worked perfectly.
Going to the Asus drivers page for my Mobo it provides the old Realtek driver and not VIA.

however, just to be sure, I followed the instructions on Via HD Audio stopped working after Win10 Anniversary Update (VDeck.exe)

and forced the VIA HD driver as explained there. Windows wouldnt accept this driver and stopped showing the HDMI connection in the playback devices and showed it was not working in device manager

so at this point neither work to be honest...

If not get Speccy from here Speccy - System Information - Free Download and install it and see what you have really got on your PC.

As CountMike stated it seems your PC has a VIA soundchip and not a Realtek one.

Your System Specs says your OS Win 10 64 bit, if so the Realtek driver should create a Realtek directory in the Program Files directory and Program Files (x86).
To me it looks like the Realtek installer isn't installing correctly as there is no Realtek device on your PC but it should have warned you that there was No Compatible Device Found.

following your advice, Ive downloaded Speccy and (unfortunately) this is all I got:



I went over to the Asus support page to double check and indeed they offer the VIA driver (up to Win8.1) and not Realtek like I remembered (must have add my Mobos mixed up).
So not sure where this leaves me. I guess Im in the wrong thread after all

Unfortunately, the newest VIA driver isnt proving much salvation either so im starting to feel a bit stuck...

The latest driver from VIA didnt help and the one for 8.1 doesnt work either.
when installed with the setup program it doesnt change from the generic MS driver and trying manually shows the device isnt working (after restart) in the device manager.

the issue is that most people online complain about no sound at all with the anniversary update. That hasnt been my problem, it works fine with the generic MS driver. Im just not getting surround sound through the HDMI cable connected to my receiver. For me thats a blocker coz thats why I built this PC for in the first place, to enjoy with my HT system

i saw that some of the ppl on reddit complained about the same issue as mine but havent seen anyone who solved it.

Click on Sound, video and game controllers. Now right-click on Realtek High Definition Audio.
You will see the menu, now click on Properties. Now click on Driver, and write down the Driver Version.
Now click on Roll Back Driver and follow the instructions.
Wait for it to be done and check the Driver Version, it should be different.

Now restart your computer and install the latest driver (7950) as you did before.
Make sure to be patient with the installation. When you click on the Setup, follow all instructions carefully.
It will first uninstall your old driver, once done it will ask you to reboot your pc.
When your pc starts up again, then it will ask you to install the new update. Once done it will ask you to reboot again.
You're done... now check if you have the latest Realtek HD Audio as you did in previous steps (via Control Panel).

I tried your suggestion but the Roll back button is grayed out and I can't click on it

I don't know what you mean by the "peripherals should display". I don't see anything that says "peripherals"
