I agree Tony, I've uninstalled build 7904 and gone back to 7898 for now. Well until the next release then I'll give that a try :)
Latest build I installed was 7818. Now I want to update the driver, but what do you suggest?
You rolled back to 7898, but in the post where you linked 7898, you said "I prefer 7891"

    It's confusing.

Sorry I confused you. If I were you I'd try 7891.

If you have problems with it or you don't like the sound then give 7898 a go.

My problem is that I try them all out, if you think it's confusing then guess how confused I get at times :)

doogie as a long time Lurker here. I wouldnt be so fast to use the above driver, as ive said ive been here using this thread to update my realtek drivers for my dell xps 8700.

tonight for the first time this realtek update did something strange.

    1) it deleted the native presets in dell audio equalizer and
    2) it took away all the wavesmaxx audio applications native to my xps 8700

to get them back i needed to reinstall this driver

    XPS-8700_Audio_Driver_MN0T2_WN32_6.0.1.7525_A00

with the hundreds of times ive updated my realtek drivers here always updating through the device manager and pointing to the specific file Ive never had a single issue till now so be aware

one thing i did notice that may or may not be relevant to this prior to installing 7904 whql the key was named realtek high definition audio......after installing 7904 whql the name changes to Realtek Audio.....

its a slight change but that may be why none of the wavesmaxx audio files download.... they appear to be in the download but do not install

i surmise that 7904 WHQL is either corrupt or an inferior version and should be installed with caution. the equalizer presets and wavesmaxx audio may not be much but it does add to the ambiance of the sound

and a big thanks for all you do

ps now i have to see if its safe to update to 7899 without losing anything.....wish me luck

update: i have now installed 7898 with no issues..... I would suggest that if you plan to install 7904 be ready to roll back if it takes away your audio capabilities
You'll find the MaxAudio Installer at the following location: ftp://ftp3.realtek.com.tw/Dell/05.05.2016 - MaxxAudio Installer 2.7.8352.1.zip
    The usual login details
The generic drivers never carry any additional features like Dolby or other enhancements

    Cheers

I've been listening to version 6.0.1.7905 for a few hours tonight and they are far better than version 6.0.1.7904.

Are they better than 6.0.1.7891 or 6.0.1.7898 ? TBH i'm not sure, but the sound is quite detailed and clear without sounding harsh.

    Worth a try.
