Hi Guys, I've stumbled across this thread searching for answers.
I'm having some problems with windows 10, Realtek HD audio drivers. I have downloaded the latests drivers as above, however, when I install them it shows the digital connection, netflix works fine with 5.1, but it keeps defaulting back to the windows drivers, and the driver software from realtek sends me in to a loop. It uninstalls>reboot>installs>reboot>configures>reboot> back to square 1. I've disabled auto driver installs, but this is doing my head in. It worked up until windows did an update a couple of months ago. Any help would be greatful.
Thank you.
doogie as a long time Lurker here. I wouldnt be so fast to use the above driver, as ive said ive been here using this thread to update my realtek drivers for my dell xps 8700.
tonight for the first time this realtek update did something strange.
1) it deleted the native presets in dell audio equalizer and
2) it took away all the wavesmaxx audio applications native to my xps 8700
to get them back i needed to reinstall this driver
XPS-8700_Audio_Driver_MN0T2_WN32_6.0.1.7525_A00
with the hundreds of times ive updated my realtek drivers here always updating through the device manager and pointing to the specific file Ive never had a single issue till now so be aware
one thing i did notice that may or may not be relevant to this prior to installing 7904 whql the key was named realtek high definition audio......after installing 7904 whql the name changes to Realtek Audio.....
its a slight change but that may be why none of the wavesmaxx audio files download.... they appear to be in the download but do not install
i surmise that 7904 WHQL is either corrupt or an inferior version and should be installed with caution. the equalizer presets and wavesmaxx audio may not be much but it does add to the ambiance of the sound
and a big thanks for all you do
ps now i have to see if its safe to update to 7899 without losing anything.....wish me luck
update: i have now installed 7898 with no issues..... I would suggest that if you plan to install 7904 be ready to roll back if it takes away your audio capabilities

Hi billneftleberg and thanks for your post.
I agree, someting is wrong with this driver. I did a clean install of it (I've not installed through device manager for quite a while now) and it proceeded to reset all of my default sound devices. It shows up in Device Manager as High Definition Audio so that's ok.
The trouble is that the Realtek drivers seem to vary so much depending on your system, a big lack of consistency. Probably that's why release at least one update a week, they fix bugs on one configuration which breaks things on another.
Sound quality isn't too good with build 7904 either, on my system anyway. It may sound great on a different system.
Build 7805 WHQL

Last one i used and it fixed my sound quality was driver 6.0.1.7898 and everything is included in that one nothing missing i'm done with driver updates now unless something breks in this one.
