On the Realtek ftp they were both released on the same date 25/03/2016

For sound quality I prefer 7779.

Hello all, thanks for a very helpful thread!

I recently decided to update my Realtek driver as it had been quite a while since I'd updated it. I wasn't having any issues, but figured I might as well. Since updating to the newer drivers (I've tried the HD Audio file currently on Realtek's site, as well as 7779 and 7780 above) my right side speaker (I just have stereo) has sounded very muffled and quiet. If I uninstall the Realtek driver and go with the generic Windows HD Audio driver then the speaker works fine, but as soon as I do a clean Realtek install, it goes back to being about 1/2 as loud as the left speaker - this leads me to believe that it is not a hardware issue since it works fine without the Realtek driver.

Any ideas? I apologize if this would be better posted elsewhere, I'll be happy to move it (or request it be moved) if so - but it seemed like there were quite a few knowledgeable people in here.

As a reference, I unfortunately have no idea what Realtek driver I upgraded from, other than it was probably from ~October 2014.

most likely was a system manufacture driver that you had have you check the system manufactures website, for any drivers for window ?

    Tonyb,

Thanks for the assistance! My guess is that you are correct and it was an Asus Realtek driver (I have an Asus motherboard). However, when I go to Asus' driver section for the mobo (Maximus Impact VI) they only list one driver, which is their version of 6.0.1.7525. If Asus has a driver "archive" I must be missing it.

    Hi all,
I have a problem with the Realtek drivers after I upgraded to windows 10 . The icon in the taskbar shows there is a cross beside the speaker. It says no audio output device is installed while I installed the latest version of Realtek 6.0.1.7779 . I tried many version of Realtek driver with compatibility troubleshooting (window 7 & window 8) , but all of them are not working . Any ideas how to solve it ?

PS: Realtek showed the notification of audio jack plugged in when I plugged in the audio jack. Seems like the driver is not compatible with windows 10 ?

Rocking a Realtek ALC1150 soundcard on my Gigabyte motherboard via SPDIF and can't choose 5.1 with any driver Just tried 6.0.1.7779 without any luck...
The weirdest thing is that I can go to the supported tab and test for DTS Audio or Dolby Digital (both supported by my Logitech receiver) just fine.

    Edit:
When I play a movie it also seems to work fine. But it doesn't feel right. Tried the A1 method which brings me DTS and DD but when I select and test tone them, I only hear two tones, with a somewhat larger pause in between them.

I'm actually experiencing the exact same problem as you, right speaker is muffled compared to the left after upgrading the audio drivers.
Have you figured out any fixes for this?

    Hello everyone
I have tried many realtek updates and each one has some issues. my laptop is ASUS N550JK running on windows 10
the main problems that i face are the following:
    - skype microphone volume control doesnt work i.e. even if i lower it to the minimum it still works. i want to be able to control it. it works well with some drivers. (N.B. allow applications to take exclusive control of the microphone is enabled)
    - echo cancellation from the speakers for the microphone doesnt work for some of the drivers. i.e. i play a video during a skype call and they would be able to hear it even though i have turned on the acoustic echo cancellation from the realtek manager. it works well with some drivers.
i have only come across one driver that is from 2013 which doesn't have the above problems but the sound volume coming out of the speakers is low.
    please advice
