    Windows 7 and Windows 10

Hey guys, just wanted to touch base on a few audio issues mentioned with the Realtek drivers. I myself have gone through 7 or so motherboards, 3 CPU's, 3 sets of RAM, 3 PSU's, and a few HDs/SSD's to see if the audio would work properly. Oh and 2 sets of speakers, and this was tested on items that were working perfectly fine on my previous build (previous PSU, speakers, HD/SSDs). I have disabled any power saving features, speedstep, and anything that would adjust power.

To start off, this was tested on what's listed above, and on Win7/10. I did multiple order installations of drivers/windows updates too, but no difference. Windows default audio drivers work perfect. Whenever I install realtek drivers, OR the audio drivers from the correct support page for my board, the issue is there.

The issue (see bottom to pull issue up right away):
Anytime with realtek audio drivers installed, whenever an audio channel opens (Volume mixer window), or audio plays, it cuts out the first split second and has a weird pop to it through my speakers. This happened on all what I've tested above. I have tried running my CPU at 100% speed, and I'm not even OC'd. Everything is at stock and has been swapped. Never had any BSODs or any other issues throughout all the swaps I did. Everything worked and only gave the audio issues w/ realtek drivers. Yes all other drivers are updated and BIOS. I also ran the bare minimum with the audio drivers, without a GPU, one ssd, etc etc, and same issue.

I was reached out to by an Asus representative on the forums whom replicated the issue for me and showed me in two videos from their end. I confirmed it was the issue I was experiencing. They've been "working" on this for a couple months now, but nothing. It has been confirmed it's an issue by myself, Asus, and plenty of others. I have been speaking to Nestor from Asus support whom has replicated it.

Also, one forum post was odd. Two guys had the same set up. One with audio issue, one without. The one without took a clone of his buddies system, put it on his own, then his PC had audio issues. Clearly we can see this issue relates to drivers/installation. I've done the bare minimum of installation though and still had errors. I went through multiple swaps of all hardware - same issue. I bought a new SSD, same issue.

maximus viii audio issues, big thanks to rog community - Page 2

    see ondersman's post.

Also, here is a gmail download link of the two videos w/ audio that Bahz sent me.

rtkdriver.avi shows audio issue, inbox.avi is normal working audio with windows default audio drivers.

What audio should sound like (Windows default audio drivers only, for this board):

Anyone know what can be done? I've done all I can think of as well as many others.

    Thanks!

You are most welcome. I'm so glad it seems to be helping. I'll keep my fingers crossed that it turns out to be a permanent cure!
As a follow-up, I had the audio jump once since I changed the communications setting, so I'm no longer sure it's a permanent fix. It definitely hasn't happened as frequently as it used to though. It's been harder to repeat than before.

Well at least it may provide a clue as to the ultimate cause. Perhaps if Realtek and Microsoft can get their heads together they might finally get to the bottom of it. I've exclusively used S/PDIF digital output for a number of years (connected to an A/V receiver). I don't know if that makes a difference to this particular issue but if you have the equipment to try it then it might be another useful step in the diagnostic process. Also, playing around with the Default Format and Enhancements options in sound settings might be worth a try. You can always go back to the defaults if it doesn't help.

Should I update the drivers from the links in the sticky threads or let Windows update them by itself?

If you don't have any problems don't change them just for the sake of changing. There's usually not much of a change.

Realtek have released two new builds today
    7764
    ftp://ftp3.realtek.com.tw/Realtek/Ge..._Win8_WHQL.zip

    and 7765
    ftp://ftp3.realtek.com.tw/Realtek/Ge..._Win7_WHQL.zip

The only difference seems to be that build 7764 doesn't support Windows 7 whereas 7765 does.
