I'm actually experiencing the exact same problem as you, right speaker is muffled compared to the left after upgrading the audio drivers.
Have you figured out any fixes for this?
Sadly, I haven't really figured out a fix, but I have figured out a band-aid. I just changed my setup within Realtek from stereo to 5.1, then disabled all the "extra" speakers that I don't have, then I used "Room Correction" to boost the dB of the right speaker until it compensated for the quieter sound. Like I said, it isn't really a true fix, but I can no longer tell a difference in my sound from the way it used to be with the older driver that worked fine.

I'm hoping to find my older driver and roll back to it, but I haven't had the time to look for it over the past couple of days.

I hadn't but I just tried and you are correct. I got the same error message as you.

I suggest if you want build 7786 of the driver you download from the Realtek ftp server.
The link is a few posts up the page. I've just checked this link now and it's working fine.

    Ok, thanks for that!

P.S. Just noticed you're in Stockport? I visited there last weekend :)
