I believe you can turn the enhancements back on, in Sounds, but Windows won't like it.
How old is this gear?
So it is likely older. I went to VIA site and did not see.
You could continue to look for solution, maybe an in place repair / upgrade would solve. Back up data.
Repair Install Windows 10 with an In-place Upgrade
The other alternative and maybe the best option, disable it in BIOS and buy a modern sound card. I think you find them at a reasonable price and with Black Friday around the corner the sales might be good.
On another thread I was involved with the sound issue was resolved with a clean install. Starting from scratch was not a desired position but it worked.

yeah..im not gonna make a clean install again, i just did that. its not worth it just because i got this audio-problem.
and no new sound card, win10 has worked without problems before with my currect hardware so im not gonna change that.
maybe a windows repair with my win10 usb installation..maybe..but i dont think windows will detect and do anything about it because when i troubleshoot this it finds nothing.
i checked through the: playback devices-sounds-sound scheme and the "windows default"had a lot of "none" in there. i tried to google for a list so that i could just change it after that list
but i havent found any. but i picked the sound for emptying the recycle bin at least
edit: look at this,
it seems that for some reason i have 2 via hd audios installed they are probably in conflict with each other
Does your VIA Audio have software and if so do you have a separate sound manager in the systray. Realtek installs this way. If so you would have two speaker like icons in the systray.
I don't see two. I see the controller and the in/outs.
