Dual-booting means more than one operating system is installed on same storage drive (HDD/SSD).

If your mouse does not move, chances are your pc crashed...
Ran into the same problem a while back. In my case the F hard drive sata guide tab was broken so the drive would loose continuity
because the sata cable pins did not have any pressure against the SSD drive pins. I managed to fix it by inserting a piece of a tie strap on the top of the sata cable and very carefully inserting it back in the hard drive sata pins...
Normally if windows 10 starts boots and works for a period of time before it crashes your problem is being caused by some sort of
hardware problem. Take your pick, Motherboard, Power Supply, Ram Cpu, Gpu, and the list goes on.
If after you install windows 7 and if the problem continues.
Disconnect everything from your PC, Just leave the mouse, keyboard and C drive . Then boot in safe mod. If it clears the problem then Boot in normal mode.
If the problem is not present then start connecting one thing at a time with a restart every time you connect an item. You should be able to find what is causing the problem in this manner.
Note: I entered this code in Admin CMD.
    bcdedit /set {default} bootmenupolicy legacy

I can enter safe mode simply by hitting f8 on my key board.
Windows 10 will crash if it sees all your drives and something causes one to loose continuity amusing your running more than one.
It will crash even if C drive is working perfectly...
    Hopes this helps...

I also want to add this, days ago after installing win10, i tried to install WMC. There is a version of WMC that has been modded to work on win10.
But people apparently have troubles with win ver 1709 although it was ok in 1703.
Anyway, it failed with some serious errors. Looking up those errors, on some ms website, ms tech had mentioned repairing DISM.

The DISM scan health - check health command worked ok, but the DISM restore health command failed. Which made me wonder if the OS is damaged by trying to install wmc. sfc worked ok.

dism /online /cleanup-image /restorehealth, this one came back as failed.

EDIT, finally got win7 up and running, took a while downloading 1gb of updates. PC and WMC is working smooth and well on the WDC 1TB 2012 blue drive. WMC did not want to install playready till the updates were done. And I ran ipconfig /flushdns to clear the cache.

Edit, win7 is also booting real fast, used to be win7 was so slow to boot could boil water while you waited. Now it is ready to go in about 30 seconds!

since I did an upgrade on that win7 to win 10, win10 is also a slow boot. I think a fresh install might be a good idea. Will do that after I get the new harddrive for data, right now I am kind of burnt out on computer stuff..

I got my 3TB drive, plugged it in, win10 gasped and exploded. Got driver status failure, we will collect data, then it rebooted. When it finally got to the desktop after forever, nothing, refused to interact with mouse of keyboard. Unplug the win7 and 2tb drive and win10 works ok.

Simply, I have booted win7, setup the 3tb drive as gpt, formatted it. I am copy video files off win10 onto 3tb drive. Copying downloads off win10 drive onto win7 drive and pictures etc...

Then my plan is wipe win10 erase it.
    Then maybe checkit with seatools.
I have a win10 install iso 64bit pro I downloaded from MS, I will reinstall the win10 onto that win 10 drive.
I WILL pull the win7 install OFF before doing that.
Supposedly since I am linked on the PC to online DL with MS, it should reactivate, otherwise back into the tech chat with them.

Something is really wrong with the win10 install, either the software is corrupted or the drive is failing which is corrupting the software. It only can run with one drive in the PC and not very reliably. I dont want to waste time resetting, trying to fix the os, just want a fresh install.

IS it going to activate automatically??

I was just thinking, I hope I am not copying any malware to corrupt the great working win7 os!
All I am copying are video files, pictures and downloads, I did not run anything using win7 and touching any win10 drive executable files.

MS offered MS security essentials in win7 and I installed it.

MS says I can do it.
My PC is activated DL linked to my account, so it ought to work.
    ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Activating after reinstalling Windows 10How you activate Windows 10 after reinstalling it depends on how Windows 10 was originally installed on your device.

If you activated a free upgrade to Windows 10 or bought and activated Windows 10 from the Microsoft Store, you have a digital license for your device. This means you can reinstall the same edition of Windows 10 that your device has a digital license for without entering a product key. During reinstallation, if you’re asked to enter a product key, you can skip this step. Windows 10 will automatically activate online after the installation is complete.
    Notes
Make sure that Windows 10 is activated before you try to reinstall it. Select the Start button, then select Settings > Update & security > Activation. If Windows 10 isn’t activated on your device, see Get help with Windows 10 activation errors for more info.

    I reinstalled win10.
    It is activated.
I checked for updates, it downloaded and installed some, some had an error, one said I already have a better driver installed but they will keep trying to install the update???

Anyway I let it run for a while, things seemed quiet.
I shut down, connected the win7 drive and the 3TB drive, rebooted and,...

windows partially through the boot, restarted, restarted again, now blue screen is saying installing updates at 100%, dont shut down the PC, and been this way for quite a while, things are somewhat quiet...

Should I unplug the PC? How long do you wait before intervening? It has been 20 minutes at 100%.

os finally came up, activated, but a problem. 3tb hd is not visible in file manager. it works fine in win7.
in disk management, shows as 2 partitions, i started another thread with pics.

Take a look at the thread here. There is nothing wrong with the drive.
the drive will either work in win7 or in win10, I can not make it work in both OS with out cleaning it and repartioning.
Win7 creates a gpt partition that win10 cant use. And win10 creates partitions that win7 cant use. And only way to get rid of it is run diskpart commands and clean the drive, disk management is helpless..

Win7 does something odd with large drives and GPT that win10 can not handle. No one has been much help.

    3tb drive works in win7, win 10 no. - Windows 10 Forums
