Hi. Alright... 2.1 should be default imo. I have a really old subwoofer. Audio pro active, and i got active speakers connected to the green port.
Here are some old pictures i took when trying to mess around with it, but i did not get far..

I don't want to use a splitter. It works in linux right out of the box... I just want to plug it in when i want to use it, and unplug it if i only want my krk speakers..
Just want the sound to go too speakers and the low frequencies going to the sub. Because it's a sub port on the back of the computer.
Also, i don't know much about splitters, what it is or how much it costs if you are talking about more advanced splitters, etc. I tried some little plastic thingy i got in my draw a while ago that makes one contact into two. Tried plugging in sub and speakers in that but they all made terrible noise. The motherboard should be ready to go. And it is. In linux anyways. Also in windows i assume, with the right settings or tweaks.
edit: Kef Eggs looked nice i googled. But my KRK speakers don't have a sub output.. But it should possible to get this working later on because i got the test signal. So i will play around some day. I might have to update the drivers with windows drivers and make all ports under one driver (speakers), i'm not sure yet.
Also, i might have misunderstood you with the subwoofer. It has line in. I have old connections where you can send sound from the sub to speakers, but then i need to cut cables and to my krk's. I don't want that. Just want the sub port to work with a fresh install of windows.. Or tweak. thnx
