How can I update my BIOS?

After the Fall Creators Update, my mom's PC (The 2nd PC under my Specs) has been having issues. When I shut it down, it acts as if its restarting whenever I press the power button to power it back up again.

It has an American Megatrends BIOS. I looked up their beep codes, and 1 short beep means DRAM Refresh failure. I am wondering if a BIOS update will fix it.

The latest BIOS update for this PC is from 2015 which I don't know how to install. Acer has listed a not so helpful tutorial on how to do it.

Should I take the RAM out and put it back in?

    Thanks, in advance!

Only if the OEM of the computer or Motherboard manufacturer if you built the machine, has issued a update. If you are getting errors, has nothing to do with a bios update. May be dust or a failing motherboard.

I’m not getting any errors. Acer has not released any updates since 2015. I don’t know how to update the BIOS to the latest as the instructions are complicated.

Then you most likely have the update if it matches what Acer has out there. You state that you think that it is the RAM, pull it, blow it out and see if reseating the RAM fixes it. If not, you may have a dead machine and will have to go through figuring out if it is something else.

The BIOS isn't the latest. The current BIOS dates from 2014. The updated BIOS is from 2015. But I don't know how to install it, since the instructions for that version is complicated.

@Plankton, the BIOS that it wants me to install has to be installed by restarting the computer and booting into the BIOS and then flashing it. It will not let me do it from the desktop.

This is a link for boots:
List of PC brands with their corresponding hot-keys
Boot to the bios and update the bios.
If there are instructions that you don't understand please post them into the thread.
We can more deeply evaluate the computer by viewing the logs.

This is a log collector that we use in the bsod forum. It will collect log files including msinfo32, dxdiag, event logs that will allow us to troubleshoot the computer

This link is from the Acer website with information on updating the BIOS:
    https://us.answers.acer.com/app/answ...060.1508716528

In the post above you indicated that the method was via the bios but that was seen in the Acer instructions. Were did you see that? Can you post that into the thread as it seem different than the above Acer instructions.

I don't know where you downloaded the bios update from, but I just got this...
    Date: 2014/05/15
    Version:P11-B0

    ...from here: https://www.acer.com/ac/en/US/conten...oduct/5175?b=1
(you don't want P11.B4L, apparently that one is for Linux)

If you extract the zip file you will find various folders and a Readme.pdf saying:
    Acer said:
    1. Please enter “WIN” folder and select “Flash.bat”.
    2. Please double click ”Flash.bat”.
    3. The system will prompt a command window and select “Yes” to continue process.
Then shows a UAC prompt to allow the Windows-based flash utility to run.

Edit: The most recent seems to be...
    Date: 2015/07/16Version: P11.B2
...which includes a README_WIN.pdf the same instructions.
