HP 6450b, upon start up at lock screen I can't control mouse

I have windows 10 installed. Half the time I get to the lock screen, the mouse pointer will flicker back and forth up top and I cannot control it. If I try logging in with my password, the mouse will continue to be uncontrollable. I then have to restart. Sometimes I have to restart a few times because it does the same thing. Yet other times it works fine. I've tried uninstalling the driver for the mouse and reinstalling it several times but it hasn't solved the problem. Any suggestions?

    Hi Ten1Ten

If this wireless mouse change position of receiver.

    Change batteries.

Can you borrow another mouse and try it?

Open device manager, show hidden devices, delete all mouse entries and let windows redetect.

I assume you don't have any game controllers. Have you tried with other USB devices unplugged? Not sure what you might have but just to be sure this is not some sort of conflict.

Are you connected to USB2 or USB3.x port, try USB 2.

I'm referring to the built-in touchpad on the laptop. I have nothing external attached. Sorry the for the confusion.

Okay, your specs says Desktop, please update.

Check driver, make sure it is right manufacturer. I've seen Toshiba's load Lenovo Touchpad instead of Synaptic. Hopefully you know what it came with. Not saying it should be Synaptic just it should match hardware.

Still look in device manager with hidden devices exposed. I would delete and let Windows detect.

One thing that sometimes clears issues, if you have removal battery, unplugged, remove battery, hold power button thirty seconds, reassemble.

You might also try driver from manufacturer web site, it will likely be an older driver.

Finally I would find a mouse and set windows to disable touchpad when mouse detected. See if the problem persists. Maybe, just maybe you have faulty device.

You could boot with Kyhi's recovery disk and see if the same behaviour occurs with a different version of Windows.
