Is it possible to disable a device while a specific application runs?

I have an IR receiver constantly attached to my computer. One program I use always registers it as a game controller, and stops me from using my actual game controllers in favor of it. Is it possible to automate disabling the IR receiver while the program runs, and re-enabling it after the application closes?

Hi, if you know or can find a command to disable it, you can write a simple Autohotkey script- for example, a loop that periodically tests to see if your game is running, and if so, disable the device.

(Autohotkey is free and well supported- it can be programmed to test for the presence of a particular process in 1 line).

    Probably 5 lines would suffice.

It comes with a comprehensive help file, detailing each command with examples.

Or you could create a shortcut to a script that
    a. launches the game
    and
    b. disables the device and exits when you choose.
