There aren't any that I can see. The case is full of flashy fan related buttons at the top and lighted grills but hard disk LEDs are conspicuous by their absence. I have had my ear against the case several times this evening. My wife thinks I am going mad! I am convinced it is the hard disk despite no usage showing in task monitor. It's been whirring away quite a bit but then suddenly stopped after I left the computer idle for a while. But then back to whirring as soon as I briefly opened steam and shut it down (no updates going on), it then persisted with its whirring for a good ten minutes more before going deathly quiet. So god knows what it is doing.
Hi we seem to have the same issue, It's the graphic card which is mining on the pc. A rogue intel graphic card driver was installed.
I use a small utility called "DiskLED" from Helge Klein for computers that don't have disk lights, mostly laptops. It mimics a small green led in the system tray for disk activity.

I don't know if this is normal behaviour. Normally from my observation it usually stays at 0 Kbps for both Send and Receive.

Is it possible to limit how much logging and other writing to disk the system process (ntoskrnl.exe) does? If you look at the disk activity with task manager you'll see that system has a cycle, usually 10-15 seconds of writing at a rate of 0,1Mbs or...
Hello everyone!
I've got an issue with my computer that has made it pretty painful to shutdown/restart. The issue that I have is constant drive activity on the primary drive that lasts up to 10 minutes after startup. I timed it this morning and...
noted repeating activity on drive monitor and looked into task manager to check it out. The windows processes "antimalware service executable", "services" and "microsoft windows search indexer" keeping cpu activity in the low 20's percent range.

I finally had to set up a dual boot with Ubuntu so that I could browse the net in peace. The constant clicky-clack of my hard drive drove me nuts. Windows lately has not given it a rest. Ubuntu on the other hand hardly ever causes overuse of the...
