    Error code 10 (This device cannot start)

    Hello,

    I have been trying to fix this error for the past few hours with no luck. Having this error with my ADATA UV150 32GB USB flash drive. The laptop I am using is Lenovo ideapad 100S (14). The things I have tried:

    1. obviously restarting the pc;
    2. switching between all the USB ports;
    3. uninstalling the device drivers and reinstalling them;
    4. trying to update the device drivers;
    5. updating Windows;
    6. reformating the USB to NTFS and FAT32.

    Not sure what else I can do. The weird thing is, that the flash works fine on my PC. Any ideas?

    Have you tried a different flash drive or USB disk? If they have the same problem on that computer, it's a Windows problem we can usually fix. Don't know what to do if it's unique to that flash drive

    Indeed I have tried other flashes and they seem to work fine. Could it be that the flash requires too much power that my laptop does not provide?

    Power is a possible issue. Is a hard one to know for sure. Is the laptop plugged in?

    I don't know if this will point to a fix but a diagnostic thing to try:

    • See if the laptop will boot from the flash drive. (Let's see if it's a Windows or laptop issue). Try putting Khyl's rescue disk on it. If it boots, would be curious to see if it's recognized once Windows comes up from the rescue disk
    • Could also try booting into the rescue disk using a different flash drive. Insert problem flash. See if it works when inserted into a Win 10 PE environment

    Error Code 10 usually means that a driver is needed for this device. However, since this is a USB Flash Drive, there is no driver to download, the standard driver is provided by Windows. Have you tried this Flash Drive on another computer?
    When you get an Error Code 10 for a device like this, on every computer, it means that the Flash Drives USB controller attached to the memory chip of the drive has failed, and the Flash Drive needs to be replaced

    The laptop has always been plugged in. I tried to boot it up from the "Broken" flash with no luck. Booting up the Win 10 PE from another flash did not change anything, the "Broken" flash did not work and after going to the device manager, it appears that it is still error code 10.

    I had an idea of trying to reinstall windows, but I believe, that after booting up the Win 10 PE, that this will not help, and the only idea that remains in my head is the power issue.

    As I have mentioned above, the flash works fine on my other computer. So the problem is within the Laptop itself.

    Interesting, I have just tried plugging it into another of my Lenovo laptops (Lenovo Yoga 510-14ISK) and it also is giving the Error code 10, while if i plug it into a PC or an Acer laptop it appears to work. For some reason. it looks like it's a problem in Lenovo specifically...
