    Keyboard Trouble with multiple laptops

    Laptops are HP Spectres.
Running into the same problem with most of them.

Keyboards are typing erratically, example follows.

    Intended message...
    This is a test message

    What comes through...
    Thiiiiiiiiiiiiiiis is a ttttttst meeeeeeeeessae

This is happening through USB wireless adapters, bluetooth, and wired. Also some go through docking stations.
Built in keyboards seem to work fine.

Same issue happens with a factory reset laptop I tested bluetooth on.

Issue is consistent on the Windows 10 machines only, but doesn't actually happen 100% of the time.

    Any ideas?

There are some on the HP forum. Seems HP keyboards have been prone to this for some time, this from 2013 suggests modifying the Ease of Access settings, should equally well apply to W10.

Also forgot to mention, there is also a lot of input lag with the keyboards when this is an issue.
You can have your hands off the keyboard for 3-5 seconds and it will still be spamming letters or trying to catch up with what you typed. This includes wired connections...

This stopped the repeating keys on the machine I'm testing, but I'm still getting terrible lag and dropped inputs.

Maybe some HP bloatware loaded at startup, try disabling some of it as suggested here...

No noticeable change as far as I can tell.
Tried turning off everything just in case.
Rebooted 3 times with all startup options disabled without any luck.

OK, have a look at this...
You may have accidentally turned on the FilterKeys feature...

    ...again, equally applicable to W10.

Filter keys was off. Turned it on and back off just in case.
    No noticeable change in behavior.
Tested different levels on repeat and delay options.
    No noticeable change in behavior.
Thank you for your multiple suggestions so far, I appreciate the help.

I'm afraid I'm out of suggestions now filter keys is HP's only suggested cause in their trouble shooting guide...

You may find updating the driver may help, as suggested a bit further down under 'function keys do not work'.
