Tablet seems dead, but battery indicator shows charged.

I have a cheap Windows 10 (upgraded) tablet. It is a Best Buy Unbranded model UB15MS10. It has been having problems starting up and the battery seems weak even though the battery charge indicator shows near full.

When plugged in to the charger the red charging indicator LED is off which indicates it does not need charging and is not charging, however, when I pull the usb charging cable out of the tablet the screen goes black.

My gut tells me regardless of what the battery charge indicator says the battery is not charged, is bad and needs replacement. Before trying to find a battery and go through replacement I would like to know for sure. Can someone help me with some troubleshooting tips?

Since this is some cheap device, I am almost 100% certain the battery is dead and needs a replacement or there is connectivity issues or the chip that switch between battery and charging power is faulty or the buck/boost converter is faulty, thus not providing stable voltages that the device needs.

The battery indicator can say whatever as it only reflects the voltage level of the battery, not how much energy the battery really contains. This is how all batteries and indicators work. Example: the battery is rated as 5V, if voltage is above 5V indicator says it's full, if the voltage is 2.5V the battery is empty. Everything in between reflects the battery charge percentages from 0-100%.

Is there a way to confirm? Or is the fact that when I pull the usb charging cable from it and it does confirm that the battery is a goner?

Only way to make 100% sure the battery is dead, would be to ask someone with electrical engineering skills and proper equipment, to remove the battery and stress test it with custom loads and by monitoring the voltages. He would pretty quickly be able to tell if the battery is dead or not.

Don't attempt this yourself, or you could make the battery go BOOM!

Won't mess with that! Most batteries like this are not too expensive. Maybe I will just buy one and see if it helps. I am having difficulties finding the part number for this battery from any of the "Unbranded" documentation. I will probably have to disassemble to find it. What i could glean from the internet is this photo showing the number MH49541. So far I am not having much luck finding it.

It would appear the other number is the one to look for: 3660124

Awesome, you found the correct one. Holy Cow, that's a cheap battery. :)

Probably cheap due to them being OEM rejects that were re-branded (or is that un-branded?)

At that price I would order a couple - not knowing the quality.
