DVD Disc player not reading discs after installing Windows 10

2 days ago I had to replace a hard drive and reinstall Windows 10. Unfortunately, my DVD drive is not reading the discs I've tried (that it read normally last week, when I also had Windows 10 and everything but the hard drive was the same). When I go into Device Manager, where the DVD drive should be showing up, there is no drop down. I asked it to check for new hardware, but nothing comes up.

When I put in a disc, the green light comes on, I can hear the disc spin and a window pops up on the monitor, but it says the disc is empty.

I searched or someone else who may have had a similar problem, but they were all different from mine.

    If you haven't already ....
    1. Try installing the drivers for your DVD drive from the manufactures site.
    2. Try installing the chipset drivers for your motherboard from the manufactures site.

Last night there was an update for Windows 10 and this morning the DVD drive showed up in the Device Manager. It still would not run the discs in the drive. But since it was "seen" by the device manager I did what I'd seen in another message: I told device manager to "uninstall" it. Then I had the system "scan for hardware changes." Now it is working again!

I had already checked the drivers for my mobo (which were up to date). And the DVD drive doesn't have any drivers of it's own as it uses the Windows drivers. But fortunately, I was able to get it to work properly, finally!
